Default Blades of Glory Blu-ray inventory

According to the press releases today, it is my understanding that Paramount's exclusivity is supposed to start with Blades of Glory which is set to hit shelves next Tuesday the 28th. What happens to the inventory of the BD version that has been on pre-sale on various web sites as-well-as those that were going to be delivered to retailers? Am I wrong in my understanding of this mess with paramount? Is BoG still coming out on BD next week? I can't imagine Paramount not having been feverishily stamping BD versions in mass quantites since the overwheliming success of 300 unless they new this was going to happen all along. If thats the case then they deliberately defrauded consumers by allowing them to continue to purchase a product they new was never going to come out.

Due to the contract announcement today one of two things will happen.

If they have been stamping copies on Blu-ray, those will get shredded and garbaged.

If they knew all along that this could happen, then there is no stock to worry about as they would have most likely just postponed the release once they refused the deal.

They were never made, that's what happened.

This deal hasn't happened overnight. It will have been many weeks, even months, in the making.

If 'Blades' existed as a Blu-ray disc then you can guarantee a few copies will escape the destruction order.

But, I doubt there is anything to destroy.

P/DW have been sitting on this deal for a while I think and have been biding their time on when to release the news. Did Fox react to P/DW or did P/DW announce today to spoil the Fox announcement? We'll probably never know - and it doesn't really matter!

Another poster in another topic said he works at Best Buy, and that they already have their shipments of BoG on Blu-ray in the store. (not on shelvs yet)

Ah, I see. So these words from the Paramount press release:

Quote:
The studio says it will launch its exclusive HD DVD program with the release of 'Blades of Glory' on August 28th
..are a complete lie? Very interesting....

Nope. It just means that any stores with stock will be notified immediately to destroy them in the field or ship them back to a specific location that will destroy them. I've worked for several major retail chains and the amount of product that has to be destroyed via manufacturer orders is ridiculous. They see it as less costly to have the retailer just throw it away than deal with shipping costs to have it returned.

So we should see them showing up on e-bay, huh.

The bad thing about this,

The Blu-ray Disc was even better!

Blu-ray: Soundtrack (PCM 5.1)

HD-DVD: (Dolby Digital Plus 5.1).

They are going to rely on a bunch of high school kids to desroy them? Like the poster above says, check e-bay in the coming days.

In the system at my Best Buy it still shows for Blades of Glory as:

HDDVD: 19 on order 0 in stock
Blu-ray: 38 on order 0 in stock

0 in the Distribution center. (of either HD or BD)

Pretty much the same story throughout the district. Nobody has received them yet, but they aren't canceled (yet) and the Sku still shows "Active" status for both. We'll see!

I would make an exception to my no new purchase rule to buy one, just as a big F*** You! to Paramount.

If you're right then we'll see Blu-ray copies sneaking out the door in a few days time.

If I'm right then there are no copies - and never were. We'll know soon enough.

Obviously I'd prefer it if you were right and this whole Paramount thing turns out to be a bad dream..

I get why everybody is upset about Paramount going exclusive to HD. From a consumer perspective is dosen't make a whole lot of sense. I guess I don't understand everbody getting worked up about a silly Will Ferrall movie not being available on HD - will Blades of Glory benefit from HD. I guess you can say that about almost any film. I for one will live I don't see BG in HD. It will eventually show up on one the HD premium channels.

No we won't. I'm sure that Managers of these retailers don't want to f#ck with these studios... especially with a large grossing title. Seriously, the inventory will be accounted for in some way. Which is why I believe that they will get returned! With the piracy problem in the world and so much at stake, Paramount won't take cahnces. If there are ANY missing upon their return the company will suffer severe reprecussions. Fines that could bring corporations down completely. The Hollywood industry is not one to tolerate the behaviour involved in those copies ending up on ebay.

They'll be like 1914S pennies (or whatever that really rare coin is) and fetch a humongous price. Collectors Items. One of them might be the one I pre-ordered from Amazon.

How do you find that out? One of those 38 is MINE. Of course, I'll never get it.

Default Pre-order any way

I think everyone should pre-order Blades of Glory and other Paramount movies no longer being released on blu-ray while they are still being offered to pre-order. If they will not be delivered at least this will show Paramount that there is a stong interest in blu-ray over HD-DVD.
