Default EMOTIVA XPA-3 Packing question

I was about to buy a EMOTIVA AUDIO XPA-3 THREE CHANNEL POWER AMPLIFIER and ran into a little problem. I'm stationed overseas and to ship to a APO-AE address a package has to be 70 pounds or less. The Emotiva website says it weighs boxed 72 and 50 something for the amp out of the box. Here is my question, if I order one and send it to family in the USA to forward to me is there 2 pounds of packing/extra crap in the box that can be remove to reduce the shipping weight? Like a said it's a weird question, but I want my amp Thanks for the feedback if you can provide it!!!

Tell Emotiva to remove any of the crap inside the box to save you money. lol Do a 2 part shipping. The Amp itself and the remote, power cord, and manual seperate shipping.

You could remove the double box and I am pretty sure it will fall under the 70 lbs.. (but it will be less protected)

There is no remote... Just a powercord, a manual and in some cases a trigger cable.

The emo is dbl boxed and I would bet that the super thick outer box prolly weighs a few pounds, have your family take out the manual , it is like a phone book and maybe some of the extras just a cord or two in the box re-pack and you might be able to still use the outer box and if still too heavy delete the outer box and wrap er up in brown paper as the unit would still be pretty safe inside the first box with the foam protection at the corners.

The fact that the amp is double boxed, is the same thing I told him in his Gallery Thread.....

i dont remember a manual... but i bought b-stock so it may not come with one. Anyway, you dont need that. I think the outer box is more than 2 lbs. It is pretty heavy cardboard. But I dont know about shipping overseas without it. I would try to remove the extras first and test weigh it. Also, there are 2 packaging straps around the box that keep it from splitting open in event of a fall. I would suggest to your family to slide the straps off instead of cutting them so they can be reused on shipment to you. Actually, I would have your family weigh the box before opening it. Emotiva maybe over estimating their shipping cost b/c I dont think there is 15lbs of packaging there. I could be wrong. Good luck.

It's not that big or thick. I would just asked Emo for the exact weight as sometimes they are off and go from there. Tell them your situation.

I spoke with Emotiva and they said it was 72 pounds and would not ship it to me since it was 2 pounds over APO's weight limit. Sounds like the double box will be my issue, I'm going to order it and have it shipped to my fathers house and see if he can repack it to keep it under 70 pounds while still protecting the amp. Thanks for all the info guys, as you can see I really want my amp

Emotiva won't ship it due to the weight so you will be stuck with the shipping if it gets sent back after whomever tries to ship it to you.

I agree, at least the one I received was rather slim (photocopies with a cerlox binding...).
