Default Cyberlink PowerDVD 10 is out

PowerDVD 10 seems to be out.

Does anybody own it already? Is it as bloated as version 9 was?

When and if they come out with a retail box version I will purchase version 10. I do not like download versions. I like the original CD-ROM or DVD-ROM on software and a printed manual.

Well, I have always had all of the Cyberlink PowerDVD Suites and all of them have been nothing but problems on every OS. I will say I build a great deal of systems with so many different OS's and the best one that has been just king is Acrsoft Total Media Platinum. What's so great about the Arcsoft series is that they really tend to put out patches on a regular basis just for compatibility issues with certain blu-ray titles. And get this: The latest version still plays HD-DVD's. That means they didn't abandon the medium of HD-DVD because there is still a loyal following for HD-DVD like myself. Yes, I know that blu-ray is awesome and I wouldn't disagree with any of you, but Arcsoft will eventually release a 3d version of it's on. I love how Arcsoft just waits in the wings when Cyberlink brings out a new version of blu-ray playback and Arcsoft just sneaks up and boo-yaaaaaa....a brand new Arcsoft package follows with better results. I can tell you one big problem that all of the PowerDVD packages have as well: That darn annoying audio/picture syncing problem. I have used 9 series on Core I7 systems to simple duo-cores and that syncing crap just got on my nerves. Well, good luck Cyberlink. I hope you get this one right finally. Peace....

I've been using 8 and 9 for a while now and am happy with them. Aside from the odd buggy moment...

I think I will wait quite a few months till I try out 10, I'm sure there will be heaps of updates and patches etc.

I still have ver 7 and I won't upgrade. No audio sync problem here. So far I have only one movie that won't play, 2012. In such rare occasion, I would just boot to another partition that has PowerDVD 10 30-Day Trial Version to play with it. I have an image file for each partiton so every 30 day I could restart from Day 1 if I want to.

2012? Currently, you need PowerDVD 10 or 9 to play 2012. Just download the Trial Version. It only works for 30-Days but it is better than nothing. Hopefully, within 30 days Cyberlink releases patches for older PowerDVD 7 or 8.

Sorry, I couldn't help you with that because I have never used HP Media Smart. You can try downloading PowerDVD Ultra 10 30-Day Trial from http://www.cyberlink.com/downloads/t...paign=CL_Trial

Get this- I have both Total Media 3 and PowerDVD9 Ultra and both work great. No issues at all. I actually use DVD9 more just because it pops up first when I throw a disc in.

Sounds like you're just a fanboy to me.

Maybe it's just me, but what I don't get is that 10 major versions in and there is still no option to auto switch the display refresh rate.

Same with WinDVD and TotalMediaTheatre too, to be fair.

To watch a blu-ray I have to manually set the refresh rate to 24Hz.

When I'm done I have to set it back (because 24Hz sucks for anything else).

I certainly don't want or need the silly turn all your 2D films into 3D...
Is there any other new feature in 10 over 9?

I don't get it

I hate all the commercial players. Media Player Classic - Home Cinema paired with ffdshow tryouts and MediaBrowser...

It also supports auto switching the refresh rate and display resolution depending on what is playing (has to be setup in options). Though I don't think it supports blu-ray menus. But then again most people who use MPC-HC are playing rips of just the movie and HD audio stored to their servers, not the disc.

You can still play the main movie by selecting the largest M2TS file in the BDMV/STREAM folder or the proper playlist for seamless branching discs.

Presumably better upconvert for standard DVD. I did notice an improvement over 9 but it could be just a placebo effect.

If you want an official side by side comparison, here's the link from Cyberlink website

I'm using PwerDVD 9(Ultra) with latest update and I have to say I have had no problems with it on either DVD or Bluray. Checked out the spec's etc for 10 and the only things it seems to offer is some True Theatre stuff and 3D,everything else appears to be the same as 9 . As I won't be using 3d I think I will pass for the time being..
Tried trial version of TMT but it doesn't seem to want to output audio, just plays the video....Wants you to buy full version so I'll sit on the fence with this....

As for the 3D, beware that it requires 3D Display and 3D Glasses. No laptop or PC monitors currently designed for 3D. So, if you want that, you have to buy a new HDTV with 3D support.

I am running power DVD 9 and I can't get 2012 to play on that either. It's the only blu-ray I have had issues with for a couple years. I have been thinking about complaining but I just hope they will come out with a fix. Not sure if 10 will play it or not.

I am running PowerDVD 9 ultra and can't play 2012. Will 10 play it? At least my blu-ray player plays it fine.

Which built do you have (Ctrl-A)? If you have built 2528 or later, you shouldn't have any problem.
