How many times do you wanna watch it? I say just rent it on DVD until it comes out on Blu eventually.

I am on the fence on this one, loved the movie, and then Paramount sells out. I know it will look just as good upscaled compared to HD-DVD, but I couldn't wait to hear the uncompressed audio! Since Paramount was supposed to be paying more attention to Blu-ray

I will probably pick up the single disc DVD version. Don't really want to give them anymore than I have to but I really like the film.

I don't buy SD DVD's anymore, I will just watch my friends copy when he buys it. I wasn't as impressed as most people were, I think POTC 3 was way better.

I was most certainly a fan of the movie. I bought my PS3 in December, and haven't bought a SD DVD since. I think that I am going to break that for Transformers. Giving Paramount money through SD DVD will mean nothing other than a higher percentage of their total sales being in SD DVD. I honestly think it would be beneficial for anyone that did enjoy the movie to buy it, thus making the difference between SD and HD sales that much higher. While this relationship may not be often used, I could see them putting it up against other big HD movies like 300 or Spidy and see the difference.

I don't buy SD DVDs anymore. Saw it in the theatre once, thought it was an ok movie, but didn't rock my world. I can wait till it is out on Blu. Won't be long.

Depresingly enough... I have an HD-DVD player... I haven't bought a movie for it since... March? Unfortunately, I think I am going to make one last purchase for it on October 16th as much as I hate Paramount (and HD-DVD).

Buying this eye candy of a movie on DVD would be a sin.

Maybe paramount took the 150 mil so they could make HDDVD with low audio quality to help end the format war. Maybe they will semi-sabotage from within.

I honestly think there will be one of 2 possibilities in this format war.
Either blu-ray will win or both formats will co-exist.
Even if HDDVD isn't doing well, 35% or any percent of something is still revenue. If Toshiba/MS drop HDDVD then they get nothing.
Best bet is to wait 1-3 years. If blu-ray wins then we can enjoy these movies in the future.
If both survive the war in 1-3 years time HDDVD players will be fairly cheap and you can get the HDDVD movies then.

I personally will only buy DVD for movies that don't really need HD as much like comedies and dramas. BEsides that I will only buy Blu-ray. In a few years if both are still around then some of us may have no choice to be format neautral if we are still desiring some of the HD DVD exclusive movies. Of course blu-ray would be the format of choice if its in both formats but for exclusive HD DVD ones we may be force into HDDVD at some point to get some of these movies.

I thought this discussion warranted a poll, to get a pulse of what people are going to do. So I made one:

Paramount isn't making a dime off me. I'll pick up one of the 2 million used DVD's a week after it's released. Or I could always pick up a bootleg Blu-Ray at my corner Chinese grocery.

To any FBI agents monitoring these forums, that last sentence was a joke.

Or was it?
