Default Troy and Alexander: Director's Cuts.

Hey guys,

Im considering picking up the directors cut of Troy and Alexander. The Kingdom of Heaven DC was absolutely stunning and 100% better than the original and I was wondering if these movies might be someone of the same? Troy to me had too much action and little story, and Alexander... well don't even get me started.

Do you guys think that it's worth picking up either of these movies in BD Directors cut version?

Thanks

I very much enjoyed the Director's Cut of Alexander The Great; however, if the sexuality of the main character is a problem for a viewer, then a longer film won't solve that dilemma. Now, it is a much longer film. Fortunately, it covers two disks and you can take a much-needed break in between parts of the movie. I haven't had a chance, yet, to watch Troy.

Sexuality isn't the issue with Alexander... it's the drawn out, dragged along story that never seems to end. I don't mind long movies, but when they are inconsistent I get a little annoyed.

Alexander Revisited...Stone thought of this movie as "epic" He came out with 3 cuts of the film...and pissed off a lot of people as far as "triple dipping" is concerned. I will say this: the final cut is the BEST cut...it opens the story to a whole new level. The intermission is placed right @ 2 hours and is well deserved. The movie is extremely long. Minus seeing balls and many gay scenes, it's an all right film. Re-watch value, however, is at a minimum. I think Anthony Hopkins character really stand out..especially during the opening scenes.

Troy- I love the story...who doesn't? When the DC came out, I thought eh I'll give it a shot. It was also a huge upgrade from my shitty full screen version.

It did exactly what Kingdom of Heaven did. It gave is a more -indepth story line. Throw in some Diane Kruger tities and you're good to go! She sure does stand-out as Helen...gorgeous actress.

Troy DC HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! PQ is awesome as well.

TROY DC is much longer and it REALLY REALLY helps the story. You feel much more connected to the characters and the animosity between certain characters is explained better and stirs the tension better. Just makes it flow way way better. I liked it in the theater and it was like a whole new (solid and complete) movie on Blu.

ENJOY

Troy DC is heartily recommended- it has a different intro that I like more, and it also greatly fleshes out some of the "other" characters like Priam. He's barely mentioned in the theatrical cut yet in the DC you see why he was heralded as one of the greatest warriors- it's a nice rivalry with Achilles.

If you like the movie definitely get it. The PQ is also very solid. Great blues and browns of the seas and sand, and sharp imagery of the armor and weaponry.

Troy certainly does not, it's majorlly bitstarved, huge artifacting and super soft picture in many scenes. They basically saved all their bits for the battles and said hang the exposition. Alexander probably faired better because both formats had 50GB to work with (2 discs)

They are both worth it. Alexander : Final Cut is awesome. Its long, but its worth it. I see why it sucked in theaters, because they left out SOOOOOO much.

I've only seen parts of Troy DC and the biggest problem I had was that they changed the music that didn't seem to quite fit in the scene when Hector and Achilles were fighting

I got the theatrical cut of Troy when it came out on DVD some years ago and was pretty disappointed with the lack of substance. I bought the DC on blu-ray after reading a positive review and really enjoyed it.

As for Alexander, I got that on DVD upon it's initial release too. It was a mess. So much so, I just can't bring myself to buy the DC on blu-ray -- even with Amazon currently offering it at $14.95.

Both movies look great on blu, but the third cut of Alexander was a bit long and inconsistent. Both movies are beautiful though and I think it's worth it to them up.

IIRC it was originally "darker" music, but studios made them switch it to being upbeat because they wanted to sell the film as an action movie to mooch off Gladiator's success.
