India/Bollywood Bollywood still very slow on Blu-rays !!!

We were expecting 45 titles in Jan as someone quoted there were not even 4.5 I have again resorted to buying hollywood titles...the long wait here is so irritating

Like I said before, any words with "quality" in them (quality control, quality dvd, quality movie, etc.) & "Bollywood" don't mix.

Sure they do.

Have you finally bought a Blu-ray player and seen any specific BD releases? Elsewhere, you continue to claim that DVD is good enough, so I am unsure how you could actually comment on the quality of Bollywood BDs.

I think it is not wise to make a comment like that if you have not seen a bollywood blu ray so far. If you have seen one or many and still making a comment like that, I doubt your display and the rest of the components in your chain.

This forum is about Blu Rays. I can agree with your comment to some extent on DVDs but with blu ray it is excellent with most discs. Saawariya is still considered one of the reference transfers in Hollywood reviews. Many other discs including OSO, Heyy Babyy, Bhool Bhulaiya, Jodha Akbar, Ghajini has proven that Bollywood blu rays can offer stunning qualities in high definition.
Watch a bolly blu ray in a proper hd display and you will see the difference.

As for your comment on quality of movies, the statement doesn't make any sense. There are movies you may like and there are movies that you don't. If you do not like any bollywood movie, you are wasting your time here...

I completely agree that Indian authoring houses are capable of producing high quality BD's, as evident in some recent releases! I think the frustration (and therein disbelief) lies in the lack of legitimate information on forthcoming releases.

I speak for myself here but in the 6 months since I discovered this section of the forum I still see vague dates, titles and numbers put out by so-called "insiders"!
Unless this changes, this skepticism would only continue... and so would piracy on other formats while the rest of us wait patiently for the 45 titles on BD

I'm on board with what most people are saying here. I'm REALLY impressed by the BD releases because after all these years Bollywood still hasn't properly done well with the DVD, but for the initial BD releases by most companies, they have done really well I believe. There is yet to be a title that can be called 'disgusting' downright.

Blame all of the timing issues on whoever does press for these companies. Clearly they don't know what their doing. Many American companies do the logical thing and set release dates so far off into the future that they have time to sit back and pass time until they put the stuff out. Release dates are always all over the place in India, so that there is really the problem.

Well, i am happy with the releases on BD. They have really Good Reference PQ (Sivaji, Saawariya, Ghajini). I think the main frustration would lie in the W a a a a i i i t for new releases. It seems to drag on and on. I just wish they'd stick to a date. When someone says Eros is going to release 30 BD's in Jan, you get excited about which movies are going to come out, Then you have the thought: 30 BD's in one month, I hope they not rushing releases and forsaking on the quality. I mean 3 Eros Bd’s in 2009, and 30 in Jan 2010?? High hopes like snowballs.
What’s even more disappointing is that like Hollywood is doing now, I’d like to see some vintage cinema on BD. Bollywood needs to realize its value in Vintage cinema. Raj Kapoor, Meena Kumari, Madhubala movies, B&W, special editions (or is that also having high hopes??).
Yash Raj is a formidable distributor, but their decisions to exclude Lossless audio is horrifying, what on earth is BD for? But I am not complaining, keep up with the releases and make them the best they can be, why binge on audio?
And where are the Madhuri Dixit movies on BD? La Dixit deserves atleast one BD already!!

Oh God, me too! I know it didn't receive very well in India, but I loved it dearly. And hopefully more iconic movies from their collection too.

Aaja Nachle would look amazing! but because of how badly it did at the box office, I doubt its high on their list to release.

I'm really really hoping for the KJo movies, K3G, KKHH etc. I really really hope they release them soon, and they do them well!

do Dil Bole Haddipa!, Rocket Singh & Pyaar Impossible count as part of YRF's next 10?

I never said anything about Blu-rays. I was talking about Bollywood & quality (with a mention of DVD). This forum is also about Bollywood, not just Blu-rays, and I know that there have been very few quality Bollywood movies released on Blu-ray. They are mainly releasing crappy films on Blu-ray. The only movie on your list that's not a crappy movie is Jodhaa Akbar (the only Blu-ray that I own but I don't have a blu-ray player yet). And the majority of all the other Bollywood Blu-rays that exist are of bad movies. Besides Jodhaa Akbar, it's just Veer Zaara, Laagan, Rang de Basanit, Faana, Kaminey, Rock On, Taare Zameen Par which are respectable films. The rest are crap.

Pro-B, I'm just waiting for the right multi-region Blu-ray player. I'm in no hurry.

Honestly I do not care for Bollywood's new releases at all. I'm not touching them on DVD or even Bluray.

What I'm looking for are classics from Bollywood where legends like Sridevi, Meena Kumari, Dilip Kumar, Amitabh Bachchan in their top form.

Bring on Blu movies like:
Pakeezah, Lamhe, Aarti, Nagina, Sadma, Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam, Madhumati, Shree 420, Mother India etc

These are the releases I'm looking for as these are the real Bollywood.

Yes It did, Aaja Nachle here in Johannesburg (South Africa) ran in many theatres from November 2007 (its release), right up to March 2008. We loved the movie.

They all need expensive digital restoration to look good on Blu Ray. Patience, patience...

Tottaly agree. A fine actress like Madhuri deserves to have her movies to be released on bluray! would be amazing to see films like Saajan, Hum Aapke Hain Koun, Dil To Pagal Hai, Aaja Nachle to be released on bluray!
