Please do not import the PS3 from overseas well the US or any other region A country anyway.
Blu-ray has 3 regions look up wikipedia (Blu-ray) but Oz is region B, the same as the UK and most of Europe, NZ and a few other countries. The American continent is Region A along with Japan and most of SE Asia. Fox ALWAYS region encodes their disc's so DO not import Fox from the US. With the others it's random what is region encoded and what is not. Warner NEVER region encodes so all their titles are safe. Sony claims they only region encode new theatrical releases, but I would do my homework first. Any Paramount titles that are still available are also region free.

As far as this NTSC / PAL thing it doesn't exist for Blu-ray. There are a few sub-standards within Blu-ray but they are all interchangeable.

PS3 games have no region encoding, however the PS2 games ARE still region encoded and the PS3 will not play an incompatible PS2 region game. PM me if you have specific questions. There are a few sites that list the movies and region. The short answer is the format is the same - some movies are just locked up with region encoding. If you have a HD monitor you will be very very happy with the PS3 - for watching movies anyway.

Some Blu-ray movies have region codings. Australia and Europe share the same region coding on the players (Region B). America and Japan, Thailand, Hong Kong and some other Asian countries have Region A on their players.

Most movies are however region free. You can find list of region free titles on this site:
