Default 120hz Displays

After four months of buying my hi def system in pieces, I finally got it all put together on Tuesday night. It includes the PS3(of course), the Yamaha RX V661, a Bose Acoustimass 10 speaker system, a Sony five disc cd changer, and my Sony turntable (viva la vinyl!), but the most mindblowing piece of equipment is the 52 inch Sony XBR 4 with 120hz of pure bliss mounted on my wall.

I don't really have a technical question, I just wanted to know if anyone else here has a 120hz tv and what they think of it. So far, I have watched Potc, Casino Royale (the end scenes of the water- wow), Big Fish and Superman Returns. And I am speechless at the picture quality that Blu-ray presents on this display. The color, contrast and motion were as smooth and perfect as you could get even trumping the output of the digital projection at the cinema I work for.

At first, it looked kind of strange viewing an image so lifelike and vivid, that I didn't know what to make of it. I couldn't get over the fact that it looked like I was right there in the scene with them. I am so used to seeing everything in standard resolution from my dvd collection. But after a few minutes I began to realize that this is just the beginning of my hi def experience and that it will only get better from here.

The guy who helped my hook this up has the XBR 3 and even he noticed the difference right away. So, for those of you with a 120hz display, what do you think of it? I will post pics of my setup later on this afternoon.

I think you do. I have an xbr3 and I was at best buy the other day and saw the xbr 4 hooked up to blu-ray. It had Dead man's chest on it, and I have watched that on my xbr3 and I was surprised at the difference on the xbr 4. It is a lot more lifelike. I was surprised and mad that I didn't wait for an xbr 4

well try this like what I did, having a 70inch XBR3 side by side with a 52inch XBR5, and then tell me how big a difference... lol

I have a 46" XBR 4 and a 40" XBR2. Once the XBR4 is calibrated, the picture is at least 30% better than the XBR2. I am dazzled by the XBR4 so far. As for the 120Hz and the new motion technology, I think it really helps with action films (less blur). My XBR2 suffers from the cloud problem but I was very pleased with it.

I was at Fry's and they had the new Samsung LN-T5271F hooked up to a Sony BDP-300. The picture was amazingly life-like and 3-dimensional.

However, in order to get that picture, they had the 120mhz setting to "High" and with it came this kind of weird trailing-ghost-behind-moving-objects effect. It was very distracting and annoying. I asked them to turn the feature off, which they did, and the ghosing thing went away, along with the life-like, 3-dimensional look of the picture. I asked them if the tv was calibrated to it's optimum settings and they assured me it was.

I don't know...If this is what I would have to put up with, I'm not sure I would want this tv anymore. The first time I saw it I was blown away and very interested in buying it.

2 questions:

1) Is anyone familiar with what I'm describing on this Model and what explanation could there be for this phenomena?

2) Does anyone know if the 81 model (with LED backlighting) does the same thing?

I work in CE and i have 120hz tv's next to 60hz tv's and really the color is what is amazing because overall its a better set. Glad you like it, I too have a soft spot in my heart for sony's XBR series. The new samsung 71 series is beautiful as well just alot of glare. I am jealous, enjoy for me.
