Default PS3 - Will Swapped HDD cause BD+ problems?

I was just curious if any PS3 owners out there have an upgraded hard drive on their PS3 and have any problems playing Fantastic Four 2 or Day After Tomorrow. Word is, these two titles have BD+ (don't know first-hand as I'm still waiting to get the discs). BD+ discs are supposed to be able to detect any hardware alterations and determine whether or not the disc will be allowed to play on that particular Blu-ray player.

Swapping out your PS3 HDD will NOT affect playablity... hacking into your drive's bios will. BD+ is a virtual machine which runs on the system memory... remember, the PS3 is currently the only BD player with a harddrive, every other player just has "persisistant memory". the BD+ will run off RAM not HDD

I was thinking along the same lines (BIOS verification), but what I've read about BD+ doesn't clearly state what it does to verify that the disc is playing on an "unhacked" player. Glad to hear my PS3 should be safe for future HDD upgrading.

Thank you much!

agree with Xerious

I boosted my PS3 to 120Go and no problem with that
you just have to be careful with the HDD you choose

think it is a SATA 2"5 type

It's a little bit of code that runs a checksum mechanism... fancy schmancy, but since the HDD on the PS3 is not locked to the console and is freely interchangable, the likelyhood that this would interfere with playback is slim. just make sure you have the proper system software updates and you should be good to go. pickin' up my FF2 today

It has 3 hdmi inputs. I am very happy with the Phillips, I was kinda surprised cause I had heard bad things but I cannot complain. The Wii is pretty fun, they need to come out w/ more good games though

Even though it's possible to use system fingerprinting in BD+, that doesn't mean that it's implemented in current discs. Remember that they still have to ensure that the discs work on players that haven't been released yet. My guess is that the fingerprinting is going to be used as a response to hacking after the fact - if they know of a player that has been defeated they'll add checks for it on newer discs. While they could do it right now as a proactive measure, it's far too risky and cumbersome since you'd have to compensate for an incredible variety of player models and firmware. The only thing they'll do for now I think is to ensure that the virtual machine hasn't been compromised, and they can do that in other ways without resorting to fingerprinting.

The only players out there I think where BD+ might use finger printing already, is for software based PC players, as they're the major vulnerability right now.

In any event, the problem turned out to be poorly done firmware on a Samsung and an LG - same company did both. BD-java mistake(s), nothing to do with BD+. Might be tied to the AACS keys revocation.
