why is it that when i watch movies on my 40v3000 sony lcd hdtv running 1080p and in vivid certain movies have things in the scenes that flash. why is that? when i set it to normal it doesnt flash but everything looks muddy. im using an hdmi cord and everything.

If you mean by flashing, a flicker. Then you want to turn off cinemotion or one of those motion enhancers in the tv's menu. I forget which one does that.
Good gosh man, how can you watch vivid. Thats like looking at pictures drawn with flourescent highlight pens. LOL I thought it was fun for 5 minutes. :-) |

yeah get off vivid mode, thats good for gaming but will kill movies.
Select standard mode (if its the same as the w3000) and then get into the menus and turn off the noise reduction features one by one and see if the flickering goes away. Some films have a little flicker in the encode so be sure its not on the disc. |

i dont have any of the cina motion stuff on the set but i did have the vivid on w/maxed out sharpness.............looks amazing on games. i guess everyone is right, if i keep it on standard it doesnt flash/flicker is some areas on some movies (the reaping,goodfellas...ect) movies like crank and chickenlittle look amazing on vivid with sharpness cranked out and they dont flicker. dont you thing on standard though the bluray movies dont look so high def? on vivid the faces look crazy you can see major detail but on standard it looks amazing but not as detailed.....plus no flickering in certain stops. i dunno im crazy i guess. vivid = amazing for game , bad for some movies.

in standard picture mode mode you get to go to an advanced menu, and you can up the detail level (few other setting as well), to retain that edgy look if thats what you like but retain better colour etc.
make sure you have turned the colour space from WIDE to Normal as well, as your see seriously pumped colour thats way inaccurate. just give your eyes time to adjust to the less saturated colour, long term it just looks better. |
