Default Panasonic 1080P plasma unable to accept 1080P??

I know a few of you guys have the newer Panasonic 1080P Plasma's. I just read an article from the AVGuide, the link is here:

http://avguide.com/the-perfect-vision/

The reviewer of their Perfect Vision online mag on page 51 states as a negative that the Panasonic TH-58PX750U, which is their top of the line tv, cannot accept a 1080P signal. I know it has a 1080P resolution, but what is the point of that if it cannot accept a 1080P signal, like a BD? Obviously, it can accept a 1080i signal and I assume upconvert it, but that is not the point of the technology.
I honestly have been looking at the slightly smaller 50" Panny and nowhere does it say this on any of their info sheets. Can owners please confirm or deny this, as my focus will shift to Pioneer only, as I know their 1080P's can accept a 1080P signal.
