I went out tonight to get a movie and when I got there all the hd on disc were gone. The whole endcap was now a transformers display mostly all sdvd but a few hddvds mixed in. A week ago there had to be over a hundred bluray there.I asked the salesguy what happened he said the manager sent them all back cause no one was buying them they are only bringing in the new titles on bluray and hddvd. I know I bought about 10 bluray there so I guess a new format must sell rightaway or its out the door. I was very disapointed.

we are still barely a blip on the radar....
sad, but this format war is killing the focus of studios. ironic if both formats die. but i have to wonder what will replace them? at some point, HD displays will be the vast majority; what then DVD? |

My wal-mart in North Miami Beach used to have a 4' section with mostly blu-ray and a few hduds. I went yesterday and I only found Night at the Museum and TMNT blu's (no hduds).

Our's is just the opposite. Two weeks they took out all HD. The next week they had installed a very large HD section. 4-1 raito in favor of BLU.

I think that this will probably happen eventually. Both formats will die and MS will get it's way.

It's possible some stores out there decided for themselves to pull these on their own, especially if their sales were rather soft because they previously only carried a limited selection. If this was the case, I do not believe they will be able to continue not having the endcap up. It's a company requirement for most stores and if the store management decided on their own to pull it, the market staff should reverse that next time they're in that store. This has to be a store-level decision, it's unlikely WM would all this time and effort to push these endcaps into stores to decide a week later that they weren't viable in some places. |

IBM Chipset Promises HD Downloads In Milliseconds Dubbed mmWave, the computer component will use so-called millimeter wave radio technology to transmit the data. By Paul McDougall InformationWeek October 22, 2007 02:31 PM IBM (NYSE: IBM) disclosed Monday that it has teamed up with Taiwanese vendor MediaTek to develop computer chipsets that the companies say will allow consumers to wirelessly zap high-definition content to televisions and other devices at push-button speeds. Dubbed mmWave, the chipsets -- which comprise computer chips and high-speed interconnects -- will use so-called millimeter wave radio technology to transmit the data. The technology employs ultra-high radio frequencies capable of sending and receiving large amounts of data at extremely high speeds to create what IBM and MediaTek are calling "revolutionary multimedia wireless products." Devices utilizing the technology would be capable of receiving a 10-Gbit file in about 5 seconds, compared to 10 minutes using current Wi-Fi systems. "This collaborative effort will enable consumers to wirelessly transfer large multimedia data files around their home and/or offices in seconds," said T.C. Chen, VP for science and technology at IBM Research, in a statement. The technology could be used in applications like home theater, where a wireless DVD player could stream high-definition movie content to a television in near-real time. IBM said it will work to integrate its mmWave radio chips, antenna, and package technology with MediaTek's expertise in digital baseband and video processing. Still, tech enthusiasts shouldn't rush down to their local Circuit City (NYSE: CC) or Best Buy (NYSE: BBY) in hopes of finding such products just yet. IBM officials say it will be at least three years before they can commercialize the technology. "We don't have a projected date for making a prototype available," said IBM business development executive Saif Aziz, in an interview. The technology is also expected to compete with Ultra Wideband as a localized networking technology. Earlier this year, IBM disclosed research it's undertaking into high-speed optical chipsets http://www.informationweek.com/news/...leID=202600286 ![]() |

Two Wal-Marts near me moved their high definition discs to an endcap. At the first one I thought they might have gotten rid of all of them when the section they used to be in was totally bare of discs. Then I noticed them on a nice endcap, with 1 DVD slot, 13 HD DVD slots, and 34 Blu-ray slots. My brother was at the other Wal-Mart and I asked him to see if they still had these discs. He reported they had an endcap that was mostly Blu-ray.
