Default Boycott Website

There's a website launched contra HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc, because of the copyright restrictions etc.

Check it out.

The truth about AACS, HD-DVD, Blu-ray discs and your rights

Welcome - This site was created to provide information about some unpleasant 'features' of new HD technologies. There are two competing formats of high definition DVDs working their way towards availability: HD-DVD and Blu-Ray. Unfortunately both systems will utilize the AACS DRM system, which is a giant step backwards for fair use and continues Hollywood's ongoing battle against their paying customers.

About the HD Boycott Site

The purpose of this site is to encourage people to not buy the new high definition DVD technologies which seek to greatly reduce or eliminate the concept of fair use and first sale rights. Our goal is to provide information so you can make your own decision.

wow, so this affects who...piraters?

I could care less, if i want to bootleg something Standard def will have to suffice.

But since i can't stand losing out on PQ...i'll just buy the HD releases =)

plus i like the packaging

Wait, you mean, unlike DVD, HD discs will use copyright protection? Oh, wait, DVDs already do that. Oh, and commercial VHS tapes do that as well! In fact, if you want a great way to guarantee you will never have a movie released on your format - make sure to let studios know they can't include copyright protection measures.

People focus to much on DRM and not enough on MMC.

Go figure - DRM was included on the first discs, but MMC is nowhere to be seen... yet.

So a bunch of piraters got together and made a website to boycott HD Disc Formats because they won't be able to bootleg them as easily... These people weren't going to help either format anyways.

What they are failing to realize is there is a small niche market right now that wants HD content and will pay for it with no problems.

I agree thats its crap that you can't make a backup copy of your own content which you are legally able to do. I have a few linux boxes do you think i'll ever be able to watch blu-ray or hd dvd on them? Most likely not becuase nobody will ever write a program that can play on them. Does it make me a pirate because I want to watch the content that I paid for on a system of my choosing? You be the judge. I don't think its piracy.
