Default (Possible only rumor) BLACK FRIDAY- SEARS -Tosh HD-A3 for $169.99!

This information link has not been verified and might only be a rumor and might not be true.

According to the following link Sears is going to be selling the third generation Toshiba HD-A3 for only $169.99. Yes I know this low cost Toshiba player can not be compared to a BLU-RAY player since this Toshiba HD-A3 does not output 1080P and only 1080I and 720P. I am hoping that Sony or another company offers a BLU-RAY 1080P player for at least $299.99. Many people might purchase the $169.99 Toshiba HD-DVD player because of the low price and they could sale millions of players if every retail store offers a similar price on the new third generation players. For $169.99 if and when the HD-DVD format fails then people can always use these HD-DVD players to play standard DVD’s on them.

If only being sold during BF, and only at Sears, then it certainly won't make much difference. Even if sold on BF at mulitple stores, it still won't make a difference. Most stores only stock a limited supply of BF items.

Now if this was the everyday price, that could make a difference.

Wouldn't surprise me. One thing Toshiba analysis has shown is that they can sell players when attached at super low prices or bundled in with 5-9 free movies. What they can't do is get many to buy the actual movies. Hence why Toshiba has more players sold (according to them) yet their attach rates are much worse.

All depends if you count the PS3 as a BD player. If you count the PS3, then more players have been sold, but the attachment rate is very low. If you don't count the PS3, then more HD-DVD players have been sold, but Blu has a better attachment rate.

There are quite a few websites that get these. Wal-Mart threatened to sue one if they printed their add. It happens every year around this time. The adds start to appear online. They do theses up a month or two in advance so it is possible.

Thumbs down Sears Black Friday Selling $169.99 HD DVD Player

http://www.black-friday.net/ad/sears-black-friday.html
Listed under Home Theater, Toshiba HD-A3 HD DVD Player $169.99. I really hope someone is selling at least close to $200 Blu-ray player.

Tiger direct had a $300 player I think. BD players should stay higher priced so they don't ***** themselves out though.

There is no way to separate the two I don't think. Too many assumptions to even remotely come close to an accurate number.

Okay, I could take a $300 player, but at a B&M place on Black Friday.

Ah this is the old MS HD-DVD zealot talking point. It still hasn't died.

The only way this is true is when they simply ignore the PS3 and pretend it never existed.

This is incredibly disingenuous at best, but they do this all the time along with many other factual errors and outright lies.

The average consumer doesn't know what 1080i or 1080p is and certainly not the difference.

All they'll see is a "better than DVD" player for under $200.

I don't understand.

If you include the PS3 the attach rate is low.
If you take out the PS3 then the attach rate is higher but the accuracy would void any results.

The average consumer simply doesn't care about any of it right now.
