Default Costco no HD-DVD

I live in a fairly small city, 60,000 people or so. I have not been to Costco in a couple monthe, there where no Blu Rays there then, now there is a disply with Sony HDTV, Blu Ray players, PS3 and Sony 301, and about 8 discs on the disply. I look in the movie isle and found another 15 or so Blus but no HD-DVDs and also no HD-DVD players. I was wondering if something is up or just lucky to get Blus in a small city.

I have noticed my Costco near DC has tons of DVDs, a good selection of Blu-rays (mostly in box sets), and 0 HD-DVDs. Nice trend.

Mine has some HD DVDS left and had HD DVD players, but now is selling the display model with no others left. It seems like the HD DVD movie selection is getting smaller.

It was funny though that I went over to look at a Bravia yesterday and a movie was paused so I went to find the player to unpause it and it was connected to a HD DVD player, so I just left it paused and left. How dare they taint a BRAVIA with a HD DVD player

The Sams club I go always has several Blu-ray players and 1080p Tv's just as you walk in. They look great, but they don't sell any Blu-rays. I guess they want you to buy them from Wal-mart rather then Sams Club.

Call me a prophet, or maybe it is just speculation. If I can read anything into the current store trends, it is this.

A. The sales of HD DVD were weak before Transformers, and dropping off again. Thus, retailers will carry less of the players, if any.

B. Consumers are finally getting up to speed on the two technologies and are making the smart choice.

If this trend continues, HD DVD will only be marketable to the "what ever is cheapest" consumer. They are a market segment which exists and always will.

When people start making up facts in their own heads, they will believe that Disney MUST come out on HD DVD sooner or later. To our knowledge, how do we know they are not being petitioned to do just that?

Just because we are ahead doesn't mean the FUDers and DUDers are dropping the Gauntlet. A few of them are going down and want to take their final death blows at us. Others will get angry, and eventually migrate over. We shall pat them on the back for a good show, and welcome them into the camp.

As for the "Never say die"-hards, they deserve a little humble pie.

Mmmm, humble pie. Arrrglglglg. -Homer-ism.

Dude, did you litterally break the disc? That is store property and considered an act of vandilism. I hope you are kidding.

Besides, touching red is beneath most blu-ray owners.
No offense to the neutral guys here. Just posturing, ya know.

My Sam's Club went from HD-DVD only to Blu-Ray only in the last couple of months. Elmsford, NY.

Actually, I think Sam's and Costco are more likely to carry Toshiba players now - Toshiba needs the stock liquidated, regular stores like BestBuy looks like are not as willing to carry them anymore, so there we go - price club warehouses ...
Also, when coparing the stocks of Costco and Sam's keep in mind they are franchisees - one store might have lots of Blu discs and players, other stores might be exactly opposite, a lot depends on the particular store manager.

Here at the home of Costco, the stores here have 1 HD DVD player and the 4 pack of HD DVD's on display. Blu Ray though has a much bigger presence though for the movie selection. 4 packs, 3 packs and singles are all available.

You can certainly tell which way they are leaning.

Our 2 costcos here have no Blu Ray movies or players or even a PS3 now. I went up and asked today and they pulled it up and the PS3 60 is disco'd and they do not even list the 40 or 80 in the system. Her reason was it was a very slow seller so they are no longer carrying the items. They shipped all theri remaining stock of 60 gig PS3's to the south store location and it is still at 659.99 with a free game and an extra controller.
