Does anyone know if Blu-ray standalone players are selling more than HDDVD? Especially with their cheap player?

i hardly doubt blu-ray standalones are outselling hd dvd standalones right now.

And what is with the firmware updates people talk about? I know what a firmware update is but what exactly does it do for blu-ray? Will the PS3 be good for firmware updates for the duration of its life?

The firmware updates allow gimmicky interactive features like linking you to a web site to buy movie related items, you get more selection and better prices by doing this yourself on the internet. It will also allow picture in picture commentaries where a box with the director covers part of the movie and he explains some of his directorial choices, the only other feature is games that coincide with the movie like finding certain things on screen during the movie.
These are generally less interesting then the regular dvd extra features that most people never view.

Someone had a thread over at AVS saying that the xbox add-on outsold all Blu-ray stand-alones combined. fiik.

If true it means they're close to if not already outselling HD-DVD stand-alones as well.

And the PS3 has outsold all combined many times over...
