PS3 freezes after 2.00 install!! - Blu-ray Forum

any of you guys having the same or similar issue? i have not installed 2.00 on mine yet but my cousins PS3 freezes will veiwing the XMB (it has happened 3 times!).

mine did it once when changing the XMB theme. but it hasn't done it since.

Both of my PS3s handled the 2.0 update just fine.

Mine's been freezing a lot less since I deactivated the RSS Information Board--

If there's only going to be a new message every week at the most, I don't need the hassle of keeping it on.

Mine has appeared to be frozen countless times since the 2.0 upgrade. Having said that, I've found that it appears to actually be the PS3 controller that's not responding completely. When the freeze appears to occur I can hold down the PS button on the PS3 remote (to bring up the shutdown menu etc) and the press "O" (circle) to exit. The PS3 controller then responds perfectly well again (until the next freeze).

This fix has worked every time. It is important to NOT press the PS button on the PS3 controller first though or it will negate the action of pressing the PS button on the PS3 remote.

Hopefully another firmware update will come out soon, alleviating this issue altogether.

YMMV but let me know if this "work around" helps the rest of you. I don't have a second PS3 controller so I was unable to test whether that will give you the same outcome as pressing the PS button on the remote.

Mine froze once after i installed 2.0 and was experimenting watching some mpeg2 and mov files from my external hard drive. Other than that I havent had any problems

Getting random hang-ups as well, seems to be net/store related, if I'm just playing a game or watching a movie its fine but going into or out of the store and logging in or out of PSN hangs it up.

No freezing on my end... but I did have one strange unrequested shutdown/restart. Otherwise, it has worked like a charm.

I tried to use the new feature that allows you to start playing a trailer that is downloading.

It locked up tighter than a tick.

I had to power it off with the hard switch on the back.

Mine PSN signs me in and out all time. Even before the recent update. Also I would have no picture sometimes when I play a disc. I have the HDMI cable hooked up to my receiver. I usually will turn the receiver on after the PS3. As far as having problems since the update then no. No proplems here.

This 'update' is a major flop. Many people are having issues, mine keeps starting on it's own when I select the option to allow my PSP to remotely turn it on. I've been to the official playstation forum's and ALOT of people are having freezing/bricking issues. I hope mine doesn't brick. That's what happening to some owners.

Bricking!!! Are you sure of that...I really hope that doesn't happen. I would just think someone thinks their player is bricked, but maybe it's just frozen...that's kind of scary though.

Mine installed and has been working perfectly, it hasn't done anything out of the ordinary. Played a video that was partly downloaded, messed around with the theme, turned the message bar thing on and off and just finished watching a Blu, nothing strange has happened whatsoever!

Downloaded 2.00 this morning, changed the background and theme some, then went on the internet with it and it froze while downloading a webpage. PS buttons wouldn't work for me either, but the front powerdown sensor worked fine. No problems since then.

Perhaps I should've said some are considering it bricked because it constantly freezes on them (every 10 minutes or so). I too, would consider it bricked if I could only get 10 minutes of play. This is a quote from one of the poster's there;
"ok so i dont know if anyone else is having problems, but after this install of 2.0 my ps3 kinda.... for lack of better terms sucks. it freezes constantly, wont connect to my bluetooth headset, randomly logs off the playstation network, among otherthings. anyway someone hit be back so i can see whats up."

I know it's not textbook bricking, but what else could you do with it?
