Default 1.51 still freezes on me...PS3

any of you guys still experience this? about an hour or so into any movies or games...the ps3 pauses for a few seconds or so..then would come back to normal..then 5 minutes after that, it pauses again...and it keeps on doing this for 5-6 times...frustrating the heck out of me...

Could it be the software? or could it be that the PS3 is getting too hot?

Guys this has been discussed in the players and PS3 threads.
Most people (me included) disable the network connection while watching movies and that seems to fix the issue.

I've yet to have my PS3 freeze when watching a BD or DVD. I'm on the latest firmware, and my PS3 is wired directly into my router.

Exactly the same for me, no freezes or hang ups whatsoever.

my PS3 is laying flat on a video rack...and when I touch the right side of it..it feels HOT...prolly will try to put a small fan there to see if it would help or not.

I have mine standing up. Just try to place it in an area with decent open air.

Standing up the side vents let escape the air up, like a chimney, while the bottom vents now let air escape to the sides instead of up back to itself, so it should run a little cooler that way.

I also disable the network connection when I'm going to watch a movie. It doesn't freeze when I do so.

I unchecked the automatic login box and that has stopped the freezing problem. Coincidentally, that was one of the changes in the 1.5 & 1.51 updates. Never had a problem before the updates and I use the PS3 for all my DVD (SD & HD) viewing and have done so since December.

PS: My setup

60GB PS3, BT remote, HDMI cable, Wireless network connection, 60" Sony SXRD.

put a small fan next to my PS3 last night...watched one movie, play 3 hrs worth of games....NOT even one freeze....I hope the fan was the cure. Will test it again tonight.

If you have freezes, try this:
Quote:
I spent an hour on the phone with a Sony tech, and she had me reset the system in the menu (Restore Default Settings, NOT the Restore PS3 Settings). Then, turn off the power and turn off the main power in back. While holding the power on button in front, turn on the power in back and release the front power button AFTER the second beep. You will need to redo all your settings since the reset will clear everything, and you should be good to go.

I had freezing like everyone is talking about every time I watched a blu-ray movie after up dating the firmware to 1.51, but after the above steps I have had NO more problems. Has nothing to do with the network, I discussed this with the tech in depth. Follow what I wrote above and it will cure the freezing problem.

SINCE doing this fix, I have watched Kingdom of Heaven, Blackhawk Down, Fifth Element, Underworld Evolution, Into the Blue, The Last Samurai (twice), The Italian Job and Silent Hill with NO freeze ups at all. Before this I couldnt get thru any of them without at least two freezes per movie, sometimes more.
