Movie Freezes?! - Blu-ray Forum

I just bought the Sony Blu-Ray BDP-S300 DVD player. I bought several films and Superman Returns and Dr. Strange both froze in the middle of the movie! I had to unplug the player to get it to do anything. I have the software updated to 2.0, No scratches on the disc, anybody else have this problem and if so how do I fix?

Sounds like a possible alignment problem with the laser. If this happens at pretty much in the middle of each movie, or close to each other, then it may be a problem with your laser not being aligned right to pick up the second layer, since both of these movies use the BD-50 discs. You can always try a third BD-50 disc and see if it happens at the same point and if it does then this may be the problem. Which at that point you would have to return it for warranty work.

The only time i've had problems with the S300 is with rentals, and only 2 (1 was cracked) the other froze durring playback, I took it out and cleaned it and it was ok.

I had a problem with Pirates of the carribean - Dead Mans Chest. Half way through the film, seemingly the jump to the second layer, it kept freezing. I returned the disc, got a new copy and it worked fine.

I've watched other BD50 discs and there hasn't been a problem

I lot of us had this problem with the PS3 when it first came out - however it was quickly fixed in a firmware upgrade. Root cause was that system was accessing the network during a freeze, and disabling the network would temporarily fix the problem.

I don't know specifics about your player, but maybe there is a firmware update you can download.

I've got the same problem; The Sony BDPS300 freeze (froze up) during playback, but in my case it not only happened with the BD50 of PotC Dead Man's Chest, but with a Std DVD - Big Mama's House. It was near the final chapter when they were all leaving Big Mama's after the final fight scene. I might exchange the player of a new on at BB.

I just wrote SONY to see what to do cause Im still having problems with mine freezing on certain movies..kinda pissin me off.

It's under warranty. You should be fine. Why not call them directly?

I just went to Wal-Mart and exchanged it. )I wonder if I can get another 5 free movies?

HT - Let us know if the exchange one works. I'm very close to doing the same on my end at BB, but wanted to check the forums and see if I needed a Firmware upgrade. When I get home, I am going to check which version I have though before exchanging for a new one.
