Default Shooter Blu-ray

I have found Shooter at Walmart for $15.00, but didn't pick it up. I want to know, does it have a much better AV presentation than the dvd, or is it just an okay transfer?

One of Paramount's last Blu-ray discs before the defection, Shooter lives up to its reputation as a much sought after film. While by no means perfect on any level, the Blu-ray is certainly one worthy of any serious collection, and action fans especially should like what they see in this one. From a technical perspective, this discs looks very good, despite a few reservations I had with it, and the audio quality is satisfactory but could have been much, much stronger with a lossless or uncompressed soundtrack. Supplements are intriguing and in-depth, all in high definition, and entertaining to boot. With Paramount's return to Blu-ray solidified and releases imminent, I hope that Shooter finds its way back onto store shelves. It's a solid movie, worth your time if you like action, Mark Whalberg, or Antoine Fuqua films. Recommended if you can find it now at a decent price or if and when it reappears for sale at regular price.
That's from this site, if you want to know what their reviewers think of any movie, just enter the title in that text thing on the top right hand side. I own it myself, just haven't seen the blu-ray yet.

Well right after Paramount released Shooter on blu-ray in july 07 they signed an exclusive deal to only release on HD-DVD but it only lasted until february of last year when blu-ray won so Paramount had no choice but to come back to us hahahahahaha

Paramount Drops Blu-ray Support; Does Not Include Spielberg Movies

Quote:
Despite selling more movies on the Blu-ray format, Paramount has announced today that they will begin supporting HD DVD exclusively. This move, rumored to be driven by a $150M exclusivity deal with the HD DVD group, comes after Paramount began favoring Blu-ray releases with higher quality video encodings and more HD features. The deal covers all of Paramount's properties excluding those directed by Steven Spielberg. The move will inevitably lengthen a format war which should never have been. Consumers will unfortunately suffer the most, as they will be forced to support a format which is being supported by corporations instead of consumers. No word was given as to how long the exclusivity agreement is for, but rumors indicate through 2008. High definition enthusiasts can now only hope that a DVD-A/SACD situation hasn't been initiated by this decision.
Paramount comes back to blu-ray
Quote:
In a statement sent exclusively to The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount Home Entertainment has revealed that they will return to releasing their films on Blu-ray. Initially supporting both high definition formats, Paramount became HD DVD exclusive in a controversial move by the studio in Fall of last year. With Universal Studios announcing their support of Blu-ray earlier this week, Paramount completes the last piece of the puzzle as the sixth and final major studio to support the Blu-ray format.

The statement read, "We are pleased that the industry is moving to a single high-definition format, as we believe it is in the best interest of the consumer. As we look to (begin) releasing our titles on Blu-ray, we will monitor consumer adoption and determine our release plans accordingly."

While no specific titles or dates have been announced at this time, it is expected that Paramount will first release their stock of Blu-ray titles produced but never released due to their exclusivity deal with HD DVD. This could include titles that were recalled soon after the deal was announced, such as 'Blades of Glory' or other Paramount titles which has already been prepared for Blu-ray release.

I'd agree with that. I bought mine at Walmart when it was on sale. Great buy. I would recommend it.

The best part about that is the fact that I sold my copy on Ebay for 50.00 after Paramount switched and people were freaking out about never getting these titles. To be able to replace it so cheap was nice.

It's one of the best "old" MPEG-2 Blu-rays out there. Yeah is sucks that it only has a DD track, but don't let that stop you from picking it up. Especially for $15!!! That's cheap!
