I was thinking that would start a pretty big chain reaction. While HD DVD is being produced in other countries, a lot of Blu exclusives are available for import on HD DVD. But that has me thinking. With the sales ratio skewed 4 to 1 in Europe and worse elsewhere, why is it even still being produced there? How long until retailers stop stocking it and distributors stop printing them? I could see the lack of imports forcing a lot of the hardcore to go neutral by choking their selection.

Well HD DVDs are much cheaper to produce because they can be made on upgraded DVD production machines. Therefore their would probably always be a market for their production even if it meant smaller pressing companies did it.

could be either way i guess.
Be careful when you say a format could be dead in a region because remember when talking about ASIA, China is going CH-DVD and that is very close to HD DVD spec. |

It's a myth that HD DVD discs are "much" cheaper. It's fraction of a dollar.

HD DVD is not in the lead in those areas but its still fairly young in its life cycle so they have'nt killed it yet because its still new to the market if blu ray is leading 80-90 percent of the market everywhere then expect HD DVD to die soon if not it will be crawling around for a few years.

I'm not sure how much people here from European countries and Australia who are interested in BD recorder, Panasonic mentioned in this article on AV Watch that they are planning to do BD recorder business in Australia first, then France and UK. No concrete release timing mentioned, though.
