Serious question. VHS has been around about 30 years, how long before you predict the ultimate demise of it? Meaning, that we no longer see ANYTHING on VHS, let alone a player.

well very few movies are still made on vhs. Mostly its used for recording my guess another 5 years and it'll be gone though it may be longer than that.

I just checked my magic 8-ball...
The last VHS consumer grade player/recorder will be sold 2 February 2014. (Some specific use systems will still be made and sold for lab use for a few years after that.) The last VHS consumer grade tape will be sold 6 June 2017. So says the magic 8-ball. |

It's not that I don't have a couple of VHS machines and some tapes in my house... It's just that once I got my DVR for cable and moved into my new home I have not hooked ANY of the VCRs up. I stopped buying on VHS about the time DVD came out. I only used the VCR for recording television, and now that need is gone. Sure, I may have to capture and dub some stuff from VHS to DVD at some point - I can do that alright. But, VHS is likely to NEVER play in my home and never be connected to my system.
I'll have to move the player out anyway to make room for a PS3. |
