Few A/V Questions for A/V-philes.

One - If I use an older receiver, or say a HTiB that comes with HDMI input, and I hook up the Blu-Ray to that and then the receiver to the TV - I still get the full 1080p of the player, I assume - correct? And the audio is whatever audio the receiver can decode? (doubtful to be the lossless tracks - perhaps DTS or DD 5.1?)

Two - The analog inputs that come on the back of BR players, whether 7.1 or 5.1 on the new Panny 30 (Grr.) - how does one connect speaker wire to them? Ive heard something about banana plugs, but then again I know now what those are of if those even apply.
