Default Paying full price

I used to buy movies for $20+ when they came out. Now with all the bogos, cheap used movies, $9.99-$14.99 specials, I just can't see spending more then $15 for a movie. People spending $25+ for a movie just blows my mind now. Short of LoTR on BR, I don't think I will ever spend more then $20 tops for a BR again. 75%+ of the movies I watch, I watch one time and its not worth it.

Anyone else feel that after all the cheap bogos etc., that spending full price for a movie seems foolish??

Yes,

I had only 4 movies prior to the bogo's that started in the last 2 weeks. Getting movies for $10 is cheaper then even sdvd.

The only issue now will be for must haves on release day. I won't have the patience to wait for a bogo.

The only title left for me to get is the HP 5, so I am waiting for a new bogo for that one.

I dont understand why people get upset for paying $25 for a movie. If you go to the theater and pay for 2 people with a soda and popcorn you will at or over $25 easily. When I buy the movie I can watch it as many times as I want for 1. Second I can pause it to smoke or go the the bathroom without missing anything and the picture quality is better on my own TV. So if you think about it, your really getting alot better deal. IMHO.

I bought Sunshine when it came out on tues.... what makes it even worse is that I got it from a b&m for $34.99! I won't be buying many more at that price, I'll wait a few weeks for the BOGO unless it is something incredible.

We all shouldn't just go for the deals. We need to support everyone who sells Blu discs. Buy one here... one there... Of course now that the war is all but over I suppose it's not as critical to support all retailers but I'm still doing it.

If I could buy this the same day it was released in the theatre then I could see your point. Otherwise, when you totally analyze it, the AVERAGE person is only going to watch a movie they purchased a few times UNLESS it is something they REALLY enjoy.

Now I realize that I'm on a movie forum that consists mostly of early adopters and movie enthusiests so what you have to understand is that the bulk of us are NOT average users so please don't start the "I watch my movies 100 times each" responses.

These prices will not last.

They will go back to over $20 for BD once the dust settles.

And that's OK.

But that's what matinees and early showings are for, and you don't have to get the soda and popcorn.

Many AMC Theaters, for example, have showings before noon on weekends and holidays for $5 per ticket.

And the last couple of years, my dad has been giving my wife and I $200 in gift cards for AMC for Christmas.

We generally will go see movies late Sunday morning after getting up and making breakfast. And with $200 in gift cards, we can go see 20 movies on that. Even if we were paying for them ourselves, it wouldn't cost that much.

Yeah, it would be much more expensive if we rushed out to the prime time evening show on opening night for every movie that we want to see, but why waiting a day or two and doing things this way, we save a lot over the course of time.

I have paid more than $20 for several BDs that I currently own (though most of those were recent major day-and-date that came out along side the DVD versions). But I think going forward, outside of the occasional must-have-now movie, I will hold out of discounts and good sales.

New releases don't generally end up in BOGO sales, it's almost always catalog titles. With the exception of a few BBY holiday sales that included new releases on their 2nd week, it hasn't really happened and I wouldn't expect it going forward.

While I agree that $25 and higher is a bit High for these movies and I'd love it to get to the DVD first week pricing of $14.99-$16.99 I just don't see that happening for a while longer still. We probably have a good 1-2 years of price gouging before we get anything close to the bombastic deals DVD gets with regularity.

And I think there will always be a premium paid for High def (as there should be).

I've only paid over 20 dollars for one of my 100 or so movies. Won't make myself do that again with all the potential sales, BOGO's and coupons that are out there. Just be a savvy consumer and try to maximize your savings howere possible. Of course if you absolutely must have a title at launch go for it!!!

Yeah, I don't see why people get upset over the prices considering it's a new format and hasn't flourished yet. So, I'm fine with the prices and even buy most of mine from places like Best Buy and Circuit City only ordering from Amazon when I can't find something locally.

I think I've paid no more than $27. for a new BD and have paid as low as $10.

However, if some time there is a foreign release that is not going to be released in America, or a special Criterion-type release of a special classic, a film I really want, hell, I'll pay whatever it takes to get my hands on one. (As long as it's not totally unreasonable.)

I don't get upset, but its silly when you think about it.

In the last 2 weeks I've bought 8 movies that all retail for $24.99 new at regular price for a total of $200.

WIth the bogo's and disney coupons, I've only spent $60. Just a bit over 75% off.
