I was happy to buy my 60-Gig model at retail price on launch day, and would no doubt do it again. It's funny how so many 360 advocates completely dismiss the PS3's Blu-ray capabilities as unnecessary... even detrimental. I think it's one of the best things about the console! I got to jump into the HD movie realm at no personal risk. If Blu-ray had failed, I'd still be able to play games on the PS3. By including Blu-ray, Sony ensured Blu-ray would emerge the victor! The people who really got screwed over are the 150K 360 owners who forked over $200 a pop for the HD-DVD add-on.

I got lucky. I tried buying mine from Costco.com the day they came out with their bundle. The site was so overloaded that it wouldn't let me check out. So after a few weeks, I got a call from them asking if I still wanted to get mine. I finally got it in December and have enjoyed it ever since. It came with an extra controller and Genji(which was terrible, I traded it in for NBA 2K7). I payed a little over $700 for mine and now have FEAR as well as 19 Blu Ray titles. Worth every penny too. Only problem is that sometimes the controller gets stuck or just truns off by itself, other than that no complaints. To answer the question, I would've waited for the hype to die down. People STILL try and sell theirs for over $1000 on Ebay when you can easily pick one up at the store. Morons.

I bought mine off Amazon and it was quite cheap. £380 for the package with no games. If I had known how good it was I would have bought it sooner.

it was underpriced at launch and still is. Maybe by the end of the year the PS3's parts will be cheaper and sony may begin to see a profit per console sold

Taking the $600 plunge to get a PS3 was a hard one for me. But I like the Sony PlayStation Brand and the system looked to offer a lot down the road. Would I like more games available? Sure. But that is the price of being an early adoptor. If the system had cost more, I am not sure that I would have still picked it up when I did. But I am happy with my purchace.
I also got an Xbox360 when it came out and the game situation was about the same for me when I got that. I had only one game for almost the first year of owning the system. I got a Wii on launch also, the only game I have for that is still Zelda. Just not much appeals to me and it is taking a while for the new systems to build up some steam. This up coming holiday season should offer some good choices, as always. It is kind of sad that it takes a year for the really good stuff to come out. It has always been that way since developers want to get the holiday bucks in. |

I hard a hard time spending the money. I don't regret it, but I don't think I would have paid more than I did. I paid what I did, because I knew it was the cheapest BD player at the time. I bought mine as a BD player primarily and a game console secondarily.

Well that is exactly the point of the post, if I had known everything PS3 had to offer from the start, I might have shelled out a little more. The thing is they kept talking about how you are paying for an entertainment hub and not a gaming machine, but they ONLY market the games in their commercials. I dont think people know enough about even to this point to say, 600 dollars thats an incredible deal.

I knew before it launched that I wouldn't be buying any more retail games till like June/July. I do my research. But the hardware was awesome, I wanted Bluray, and the downloadable games made it worth it

I don't know about paying more than I did.
I paid full retail 599.00 I have no buyers remorse whatsoever about the ps3 or blu-ray movies. ![]() The games however are a different story. I have buyers remorse for more than one title in my library ![]() |
