Default 5.1 channel audio

I was using the optical out on my bd-p1400 until I heard I could experience Dolby TrueHD using the analog outs. I tried this and was pleased with the sound with one major problem. The subwoofer is barely getting a signal. When I use the optical you can feel air on your hand from the sub over a foot away, but with the 6 channel mode you can't even tell its playing. What didi I do wrong? My reciever is an older RCA R2250???(not sure about model#) that has dd and dts decoders. I want to use Dolby True HD but not at the expense of no bass.

I have the same set-up and can honestly say that the bass from the sub is excellent. In the speaker set-up, are you seeing the LFE channel on the diagram? I had to toggle the front speakers between small and large, then the LFE channel appeared. From that point, I set the front speakers to small, ran the test tones, and have had excellent bass.

Hope this helps.

Do you have the speakers set to small? That should also increase LFE routed to the sub? Are you getting no sound, or just very light sound?

The only other thing I can think of is to make sure Digital Output is set to "PCM", PCM Downsampling is set to "off", and Dynamic Compression is set to "off". The player defaults these to "on" for some reason.

Other than that, I'd say the issue is related to the receivers capabilities. Do you have the option of turning up the sub directly on the sub by any chance?

edit: By the way...the test tone signal is light for me as well, but the bass is very distinct when playing a movie.

Good luck.

I had the same problem

Make sure your speakers are set to small IN THE PLAYER SETUP

And bump your sub channel in the reciever.

If you could feel the air from the sub a foot away strongly, you probably had it up to high to begin with though

Good point of clarification WickyWoo. All my suggestions were related to BDP1400 player settings.
