Default Astonishing higher bit rate VC-1 done only by Disney on Santa BD.

SANTA CLAUSE 3 Reviewed with some wonderful comments everyone should be read it even the new freebies who or just undecided between BD and HD-DVD.

link:

http://www.hometheaterspot.com/fusio...hp?tid/139444/

Video:

"SC3 comes to town in a gorgeous, ultra high-bitrate VC-1 encoding that almost makes you think Microsoft has something to prove. The bitrate appears to average and peak higher even than most of the AVC encodes I’ve checked from Disney and Sony – providing a presentation that for all intents and purposes appears to be free of any burden from compression"

"Getting back to the specifics of the disc on hand… well it can be summed up pretty simply. Holiday eye candy doesn’t get much better than this. There was some very mild softness in parts, but the resolve extends well into the upper frequency range and detail generally looks incredible, all the way down to the finest frays on SC’s Christmas sweater. A myriad of festive colors pop right off the screen, adorning the snow covered North Pole. The sight of which alone will leave you in the Christmas spirit. "

there are more specific details inside the link ,so please read it carefully

Audio is too outstanding as usually...

Enjoy it my friends

Just goes to show that VC-1 CAN be used for good . . . unfortunately, compared to a lot of the Blu-ray AVC encodes, it's gotten a pretty bad rep.

So I guess it's just a messed up transfer from Warner with all of their VC-1 encodes.....

Deja Vu is another amazing example of sick high bitrate VC-1 done very well.

You just can't do that sort of thing on HD-DVD.

OMG!! You mean WB can actually produce "true" high quality HD transfers for BD by just stepping up the bitrate using the same HD-DUD codec! Who knew. Lazy ass bastards.

basically all that proves is bitrate is far more important than which actual codec is used. They all look better at high bitrate.

More reason to complain about warner's crappy lowbitrate encodes.

I prefer open standards such as MPEG 4 (AVC) something urks me about Using VC-1 that give MS licensing fees (I believe) after they exclusively supported HD-DVD rather than BD, or even be neutral about the situation. Even if that wasn't the case do you want MS the maker of Vista to profit off our format?

No my friend you cant say that even VC-1 can attain a higher level ,AVC can do that .You cant do this comparison even HD-DVD just can keep dreaming and should admit they have a failure format.Again here BD shows its superiority over its rival format.

but but, at low bitrate its transparent to the master........................

yeah in your dreams Amir. obviously if disney felt the need to push the bitrate, then clearly low assed bitrates are not transparent to the master.

VC-1 is a great great codec WHEN its aloud to peak. MS need to get with the program.

many claim transformers is HD DVD best looking title, and thats AVC running at a decent rate., (hence no room for lossless required bandwidth).

sort of true, you can have high bitrate on HD DVD but you cant have an IME feature or a lossless track at the same time, somthing got to give, somthings got to give, let the bodies hit the floor. (good song that )

"Lazy" is not the word I would use.

Try "Cheap".

If VC-1 can be used at a higher bitrate, then what's the advantage over using AVC? Won't it still be using the same amount of storage?

The moral of the story

VC-1: It doesn't HAVE to suck

I've heard that there are compressionists out there that prefer the VC-1 toolset. It's simply personal pref, not better/worse

well those that use both codecs have said there isnt that much difference and the MS tools are supposed to be a bit more friendly in fairness.

warner also pre filtered titles which gave them that kinda soft look, which was blamed on VC-1.

Warner chooses to tailor the peak and average for HD DVD. Disney doesn't.

In fact, it may not be necessary to have such a high bitrate. That is the same quality might be achievable at a lower bit-rate. But, why bother finding that optimal spot if you have the bandwidth and capacity to play with?

The cost of a VC-1 encode is related to how much segment re-encoding work is necessary. And a wide open pipe probably reduces that considerably.

It could also be partially political. Disney is showing spectacular results with VC-1, but at high bitrates totally unachievable by HD DVD.

VC-1 with decent bit rates is a very good codec. I wish Microsoft would have pushed the codec for Blu-ray instead of trying to compensate for HD-DVD's disadvantages

The Host (Magnolia), again VC-1 at relatively high bitrate.

I like the thought of Disney thumbing their nose at Toshiba, Paramount, and Universal showing them how good VC-1 can look with Blu-ray's bitrate capacity.
