Sony's PlayStation 3 will this month be updated to allow it to support Blu-ray Disc Profile 1.1 - the version of the optical disc spec that enables picture-in-picture.

I hope the next update will also bring us the divx codec too.
And it really is high time we got some new visualisations for the music player! |

You know, it's funny...for all the tweaking they keep doing, all they'd have to do is a few major things that people have been clammoring for and I doubt highly if anyone would care one way or another if they ever gave us new firmware again:
1. In-Game XMB (not my top pick, but pretty much everyone else's). 2. Profile 1.1 compliance. 3. DTS-MA decoding. 4. DIVX / XVID / MKV file support. 5. DSD to DTS/DD downmixing (added in 2.00, then stripped in 2.01). 6. Custom soundtracks. And it would have to do all of this with unsurpassed stability above all else, otherwise it's all rendered meaningless. |

7.) Better plug in support for the PSN browser. I would like be able to view videos from somewhere other than youtube. Plus I wish they would include an update where a website only has to ask you once whether or not you want to run a plug in for it. I get tired of having to answer yes or no every time I go to the website. 8.) The ability to invite friends into a game from anywhere (this is a popular request). BTW, the ability for custom soundtracks is there. It's up to the individual game developer to implement it in their titles. Last edited by Steelmaker; 12-10-2007 at 01:27 PM. |

You just gave the reason why we don't have a few of those items, especially ingame XMB. They need to get the memory footprint down even further (which they have been doing pretty much every update). It will get here, just takes time. The launch of Home will most likely bring that feature, maybe even custom soundtracks to all games reguardless if the dev incorporates it or not.

Sweet. Profile 1.1
after that, DTS HD MA is the next milestone, hopefully early in 2008. When Warner comes onboard everything will be a cruise ![]() |
