Thumbs down Sony new release for download 1 month before blu-ray

http://www.worstpreviews.com/headlin...=15736&count=0

although the price for early download(and it is rent) is ridiculous.
it is not a good news for blu-ray, especially from sony.

I don't know anyone who would want to pay $25 for a one day rental.

Eh, there've been a few of these test runs of being able to download a movie before it hits DVD (and now Blu-Ray). They've never done especially well.

As a matter of fact, Sony did this with Hancock over a year ago.

Cheaper than taking the entire family to the movies. So some will.

But for one month earlier, you pay $25 more.
But if you bring family to theater, you got 6 months earlier, and you only pay $32 (four tickets for $8 each).
If I want to see that movie so badly, I will be go to theater. (and in some second-line theaters, you may got $2 ticket)

$8 a ticket is cheaper than a lot of people pay.

And you're not factoring in concession orders. Cheaper to get pizza and order the movie.

Wow, SONY has some brass balls. Considering the film made $120 Million in the box office, I'd be counting my blessings that the film didn't lose money. Now with this, I don't know. If it was $15, then maybe because I know some films that are released in theaters and on demand are like $10 sometimes. But $25 is retarded.

How is it not good news for Blu-Ray?

If people wait a month they can buy it on Blu-Ray {for the same price} and watch it over and over again.

Excellent move by Sony. If they market it right. A lot of parents will do it for their kids.

I like how the article also mentions Redbox. That little thing is destroying video sales.

I'm sure some people will buy this, they may be drunk at the time and be annoyed once they sober up. But otherwise this move by sony is an epic fail (if sony is indeed actually trying this).

If a couple thousand people rent it through streaming services it's a win for them. It's almost all profit for them. No manufacturing costs and they just need to share some of the profit with the services.

Incorrect.

It's not 'almost all profit' for them, otherwise Apple would be rolling in more dough than what they currently have.

Itunes doesn't make Apple money hand over fist like some people think, it takes a ton of resources for them to house all the movies that they sell/rent digitally, then there would be the stupidly high bandwidth costs for them.

Why do pro-download folks always assume that this is free?

Most families that would be interested in this probably don't have the system to make this work and those who can afford it and have a nice system will wait 1 month to get the blu-ray / DVD.

15$ would be fine, 25$ is a bit much for 1 day rental. If you could watch it for the whole month, that would be different.

I would even say that $15 is kinda on the crazy side for a 1 day rental.

Even with inflation, we shouldn't be getting to those prices for at least another 20 years.
