Default PS3 Media sharing question

I know this isn't exactly a blu-ray question, put it applies to the PS3, so Im hoping someone here will know it.

Ive got a PS3, and an apple imac with an itunes library full of hundreds of my dvds converted to mp4 format. With the Xbox, I can use Connect360 to share my itunes library with my 360. Is there any way to share my itunes library with my ps3?

I know with windows based computers you can use Windows Media Player 11 or a third party program like Nero. For an apple computer I'm not to sure. Sorry.

I'm investigating this, as well. Afaict, you have to get some kind of "dlna server" software (which is available for Win and OSX) to run on your computer. That will provide a "gateway" that your ps3 will be able to link to, in order to stream music, picture, and video media. I'm not sure how purchased iTunes encrypted music plays into this, but my hunch is that it will not stream in a state that is playable on the ps3 (I could be wrong on this, so anyone feel free to elaborate).

I found this software called TwonkyMedia that is supposed to work. I haven't tried it yet.

http://www.twonkyvision.de/

Also, this is a good article with a list of DLNA software

unfortunately I still have a pc and not a mac yet but I haven't been able to set up my comp as a media server. Not really sure why...I go to wmp 11 and media sharing and it doesn't pick up the ps3 and my system does have the latest update on it...

The same people that made Connect360 are porting their software for PS3. I too have been anxiously awaiting the ability to share my Mac's media with my PS3. Soon enough, soon enough...

If you wanted to stream for a PC I've found the easiest thing to use is Nero. Windows' built-in functionality is a pain in the ass, imo. My PC w/ Nero + PS3 work seamlessly with no weird configuring or set up necessary. Simply select a folder with media, click, & go.

While waiting for the Mac + PS3 software to be released, I just put the media I want on an iPod and connect it via USB to the PS3 and get what I want off there.

Nothing new there.

I dont mind so much if it is not free, so long as it is a reasonable price. Hopefully the connect360 people will combine the ps3+360 servers into one piece of software.

TwonkyMedia works for Mac to PS3 sharing via UPnP. I use my Mac Pro as a music/photo/video server with it. The PS3 recognizes the server, but the interface is a bit clunky. If you have a lot of media, you have to scroll through long lists of music/photos/videos to find what you want. I have not found a way to share iTunes song lists with it, although there is an entry within the Twonky Media configuration page that allows you to specify your iTunes library. I am playing around with it a bit to see if I can get it to work.

As others have already stated, it is not free-- but you can download a trial version that you can try for 30 days.

When using WMP 11, it will detect your PS3 as "Unknown Device".

This is the steps that I posted to connect the PS3 and WMP11.

1. Go to the "Library Tab" on the top(Between "Now Playing" and "Rip")
2. Select "Media Sharing"
3. Check the "Share My Media to:"
4. Click on "Unknown Device"(its your PS3)
5. Click on the "Allow" option
6. Click on "Settings"
7. Adjust the settings to your preference

It works without any problems for me.

Unfortunately, this thready is about connecting a MAC to a PS3, and not WMP11.
