Default Giving up sharing with PS3

Ugh... I'm going bonkers.

I've wasted close to 5 hours trying to get my files to share between the PS3 and my HP notebook. I've done EVERYTHING the manuals say, and tried other things. The PS3 is enabled in sharing on my computer. It sees it. The PS3 sees my computer SOMETIMES, but not always. I've shut off all firewalls -- windows and zonealarm.

The disgusting thing is that I got it working ONCE for about 10 seconds. It played a music file, then lost the network connection again. When the PS3 does see my computer, I am able to get into a few folders, then it loses the network connection again. UGH!

The only thing I can figure out is that my internet is the university's internet connection. I have both hardwire and wireless. Something about a CAT3 or NAT3 connection with reduced functionality? That must be the problem.

The internet connection seems to do funky things, including not allowing me to use WPA through my router (WPA worked fine in my other house through my private cablemodem connection). Apparently, it won't allow me to do filesharing, either. To get my wifi router to work, I have to assign IP numbers, but up until now, anything that picked up my wifi router's signal didn't need assigned IP numbers.

The PS3 has never liked my router's connection, but will work off of the university's wifi system.

So many strange and annoying things!
