The only person that can play MacGyver is Richard Dean Anderson. If they try to go a different route it just wont be the same.

I figured this was coming, there was already mention of the A Team and we already have a remake of Knight Rider on TV, what was left from that time, MacGyver of course

Is this why SNL has stepped up the "MacGruber" bits starring the original MacGyver as MacGyver (MacGruber's dad)?

If you have no idea what I'm talking about, go check out some clips on Hulu or something.

Funny bits.

Same can be said about any original.
But, as we have all seen, some people cream their jeans over newer actors redoing a part.

I was literally thinking of this last night when a rerun of Stargate came on. RDA is getting up there in years but could still pull it off. If they do want to rejuvinate the premise then at least cast RDA in the supporting or mentor role. It is not MacGyver without him.

I call my nephew Macyver cuz he is a master technician at being a terror child. But in all seriousness, this actually sounds like a good idea and I agree with all the comments of RDA being involved in some way, it wouldn't be the same without him.

maybe you missed the last stargate movie, or worse yet the macgruber skit, but he is not only up their in age he is FULLY enjoying retirement, father hood, and twinkies, lol, he let it go bigtime, and rightfully so after giving me 8 fun years of stargate, but him playing the part of MacGyver, no way lol.

Oddly enough neither is his stand in. The original General from SG-1 was Dana Elcar's stand in during the last couple seasons when Dana was too sick to work (if I remember one of the commentaries from the show right). Forget the General's name, but he passed away last year too. I would have voted him for Pete in a heartbeat.

I agree with the consensus, MacGyver just wouldn't be MacGyver without RDA. He is such a great actor, in both shows I watched him in, he just had perfect timing and facial expressions. He said more with his face in SG-1 then most people did actually speaking. When Carter would give her technobabble and he would just look at her and mouth "What?" I would die laughing, it was just priceless every time.

I just don't see many people filling his shoes with this role, but if it can be done well, I will be watching it opening night because well, it IS MacGyver after all!!

That's why I said put him in the supporting role, like what other people have suggested, the Peter Thorton role. He didn't look too bad a couple years ago for the MasterCard commercial. Hell if Harrison Ford can pull off Indy at age 66 and RDA is 8 years younger he could still play Mac. He is more of a 'thinker' anyway.

And the Macgruber skits suck. At least what I've seen.

So what about the rest of the cast?
Who would play Jack?
Should Murdoc be the villian? Michael Des Barres still looks crazy as ever.

yeah actually indy was exactly what i was thinking, the whole time i was watching the last one i kept thinking poor guy is gonna throw out his back climbing those crates Macgruber skits are duuuuuuuuumb, i was talking more in lines of how he let himself go, which is fine, and maybe i don't remember macgyver clearly enough, but i would expect some action involved on his part, and i can't see that happening without some serious personal training involved, and the guy is semi-retired lol, and as much as i like seeing himself still do stuff time to time, i can't see him going through all that for a role. Supporting role, would be cool, kind of an honor to the original.

FUN TIDBIT, i just discovered for you stargate fans, tiel'c actually appeared in an episode of macgyver, i may have to go buy that season to check it out

It was Season 5 and pretty funny. The stargate guy is a student who plays football and Mac school's him on physics by flipping him, if I remember correctly.

all these remakes of things seem to be a disappointment. They tend to flop, 5 months after the movie, they are usually forgotten about. Unlike the originals. I guess Transformers is still talked about. But look at all those flop remakes. Inspector Gadget, TMNT, Knight Rider, and the others I can't remember because I have forgotten about them. In saying that, I won't judge a movie till I have seen it, but I will prepare for disappointment.

It reminds me when I was teenager.
I used to love this series so much.
Never missed an episode.
So, I'm very happy if this heads for the big screen.
