Default Blade Runner sold out in Blu-ray on Amazon, not in HD DVD

Interesting eh?
I saw that was a big new release, saw it on a few shows on tv too being advertised. I was going to buy it off amazon, but looks like I'd have to get a HD-DVD player if I want to lol.

Um I am pretty sure Amazon does not have exclusive rights to Blade Runner. Try other stores.

There is something fishy, about all this situation. All WB new releases on BD (except HP) are postponed/cancelled here in Australia. For that reason, I have ordered my copy of Blade Runner on 12th Dec. through the Amazon. Now its telling me its on back order(not available). Not happy Jan.

Amazon did the same thing with some other Warner High Def discs. I remember when Twilight Zone was released Amazon sent me an email saying they had trouble receiving this item. But I checked to see if the had the HDDUD version of Twilight Zone and they had that one. Looks like there doing the same with Blade Runner. That sucks. I'm going to cancel my order and pick Blade Runner up at the store today.

I preordered Blade Runner on December 3. Still not shipped.

However all versions show as 'in stock' on dvdpacific.

dvdempire has the regular 5-disc in stock. The suitcase is on order.

edit to add:

Damn, amazon is terrible:

Blade Runner 5-disc: in stock on HD DVD; not in stock on BD
That's Entertainment: in stock on HD DVD; not in stock on BD
Terminator 3: in stock on HD DVD; not in stock on BD (yeah, I know the HD has been out for ages)

Well, I think that the situation with Bladerunner on Amazon will be just like 300 was on Amazon. Remember, because of the sales volume (compared to the quantities Amazon ordered) they were frequently running out of stock on the Blu-ray version while the Hid-divd version remained in stock. They did a series of emergency resupply orders based upon how quickly 300 came back in stock each time. You'd think that Amazon would learn by now to increase their Blu-ray orders. How could they not know that this would be a popular item!

Amazon just didn't figure on needing that many copies I suppose. That'll learn 'em.

It's a catch 22. It's good news it's selling very well on Blu and not so well on HD-DVD, but for those who had to wait they are obviously not happy. My copy was shipped and I'll be getting it today.

I didn't know this. Well, that makes me that much more glad I pre-ordered mine a few days ago. I am so looking forward to this! I haven't seen Blade-Runner in 6 years and I have already read some great reviews about the BD version.

Its also a catch 22 for that Amazon sales tracker site, since now the HD DVD has a better sales rank. Nobody wants to backorder Amazon when you could get it at Buy.com, BB, CC, etc.

I swear this shipping thing with Amazon is a completely random problem. I didn't preorder Blade Runner until last week and I'm getting mine tomorrow.

And I ordered mine on the 12th, and it hasn't shipped yet. Oh well, I've been ordering so many BDs lately, I can wait (and that usually isn't the case with me!)

This is appearing to go like 300 did. I preordered then had to wait AWHILE.

I'm going to borders tonight to give this a shot

http://www.bordersmedia.com/coup/coup40dvd1217.htm

Technically this counts as a box set, so it should be CHEAPER than amazon if it works (and they have it)

If so, I'll can my amazon order

Do you have Amazon Prime. They ship those out first no matter when you order it. If you don't have Prime and ordered it months ago, they will still ship the orders out for the people who have Amazon Prime sooner even if they ordered it just yesterday.

Pre-ordered it first day available from Amazon and I'm a Prime member. As of this morning, still not shipped, so I went to BB at 0800 to get a copy, then cancelled my Amazon order with a lengthy diatribe about my dissatisfaction.

FYI, my BB is very large and in a large metropolitan area, yet had only 2 copies of the regular edition and no SE's I could see. No HD DVD copies were shelved, at all.

It sounds to me like everyone has gotten majorly shorted

My guess is that they booked space for say 30-40k, and got orders for 80, so they doled out what they could
