Berg will produce and will develop to direct "Hercules: The Thracian Wars," a co-production of Spyglass Entertainment, Berg’s Film 44 and Radical Pictures. Spyglass and Universal will co-finance the film.

"What resonated for them was that this was character driven, about a character who’s more man than god, with conflicts and redemption," Levine said.

Radical’s the most recent company making an aggressive push for its comicbook properties in motion pictures. Radical Pictures is also teamed to produce "Caliber" with Johnny Depp’s Infinitum Nihil and John Woo’s Lion Rock, with Woo attached to direct. The publishing company recently closed a funding deal through a privately held company called Lacho Calad, with coin coming from Singapore. The money includes a discretionary fund for script development of Radical comicbook properties.

Berg is also set to direct and produce a new version of the Frank Herbert sci-fi novel "Dune" for Paramount Pictures.
Peter Berg Talks about possible Dune Remake:

Quote:
Last year it was announced that Peter Berg would be directing a new adaptation of Frank Herbert’s massive and influential novel Dune. We haven’t yet heard much about what Berg plans to do with his version, which will be the third filmed take on the story. SciFiWire caught up with Berg, who reveals that there is not yet a script, but says “there’s a more dynamic film to be made” from the novel.

[The book] was much more muscular and adventurous, more violent and possibly even a little bit more fun. I think those are all elements of my experience of the book that can be brought in without offending the die-hard fans of the Bene Gesserit and Kwisatz Haderach. There’s a more dynamic film to be made.

‘Dynamic’ I can see. David Lynch’s 1984 version was ponderous (though it has moments of exaltation and amazing sets) while the 2000 Sci Fi Channel mini-series was overly pagebound. It kept a lot of the details Lynch had to cut, and left out most of the art. Yet scripting a dynamic film that properly deals with two warring political houses who are scrabbling over the planet Arakkis and the valuable spice it exclusively produces has proven to be a difficult task, if those previous efforts are any example. There’s a lot of politics to cover, a great deal of mystical mumbo jumbo and no small amount of pure science fiction.
Enjoy.

I loved the first one. However, I would welcome a remake. If done right, it could be epic.

No need for a remake, the mini-series was beyond epic and more than good enough. Guess I'll wait and see if this is cast well.

Hmm... another one? Loved the original, but never checked out the miniseries version. I could see them making bad casting choices on this depending on whether they are trying for a younger teen audience. Also, could be horrible if they try to only make it an action oriented scifi movie.

Nothing beats Sting.

"I WILL KILL HIM!"

Although I liked the miniseries and it was more faithful the sheer scope and epic qualities of the movie make it great.

Why not make one of the other Dune books into a movie?

The mini-series was great, but that's because it had an incredibly long run-time. It had more opportunity to flesh out stories and characters w/in the book. However, I didn't like how the mini-series changed the appearance of some of the characters from their original description in the book. Still, it rocked and I own the DVD.

I'm a fan of Berg's camera work (I love 'Friday Night Lights'), and I'm looking forward to what can be done with the new Hercules movie coming out, but I heard he wants to do the whole book in one movie. I don't have a link to that, but I know I've read it several times somewhere.

Other books have been translated well in one movie, but this book....well, it just seems so epic in scope. Is it possible this book can be done right in one sitting?

Why can't Hollywood just come up with some new ideas rather than remake what has come before. I dread the day Alien or Aliens gets a remake.

The Lynch Dune is wonderful to look at, but that's it. The mini-series was faithful, but looked garish and cheap. Somewhere in between is where this film needs to be.

this will be a dumbed down over produced version by Berg, "the meathead who can read". this should miss the mark completely.

nothing worse than a douche who thinks he's an artist because he uses a shaky camera

Frank Herbert's Dune tbh needs 2 3 hour movies, not 1 movie. The mini-series was 4.5 hours long and well-done but it still missed a huge chunk of the book. This will not be very good but I will probably still see it, I LOVE Dune.

Best way to make Dune, a HBO series with 13 episodes for each book.

I did enjoy the David Lynch movie, somethings I did not agree with, like some of the actors were actualy to old for the characters they were playing but it was a good interesting movie.

The mini series from a few years back had more flesh on the bones and so made things more interesting.

Now and HBO series would be the way to go on this. They would need a huge budget for this, though. Don't want to make it look lie a sci-fi, sorry I mean syfy original.

A HBO miniseries would be best probably.

I also think a similar style miniseries for Terminator, set in the future war post Salvation would be nice. Kind of like a futuristic Band of Brothers.
