Exclamation EB Games taking orders today

I just got a email from ebgames at 12:03am on 10/10/06 and they are taking preorders on a first come first serve basis.. They have a limited number of orders that they are taking and you need a 100.00 deposit.

Good luck to all

note: the online preorders are starting at a later date and will not have a inpact on the in store units.

Exclamation Gamespot/EBGames PS3 Pre-orders Today!

What? How did my post end up below Werewolk's when I started the thread? I wasn't paying attention and ended up editing out my post thinking it was a double post. Oh, well. Cheers to all that managed to get a pre-order in.

My local store... 9:30AM... I show up.

Sweet! Nobody in line outside.

Then the door to the store opens up and someone walks out.

Crap!

I quickly park and walk inside... Would have run, but nobody else was headed towards the store at that time.

I walk inside and there are 2 people in line, and the clerk has about 6 slips of paper sitting in front of him. Looks like a good sign.

Five minutes later... YES! It IS a good sign. Those slips represent the number of PS3 units that the store has been allocated. No extras will be sold and they have no interest in the X360 fiasco. So, I have in my hands a receipt for the full PS3 Premium system.

With a bit of a disclaimer:
"- Reservations/Purchases are limited to 1 per household.
- Reservations will be processed on a first come, first serve basis.
- The reservation guarantees the customer a place in line only: it does not guarantee that the system will be available at launch
- GameStop is not responsible for allocation shortfalls or shipping delays caused by the manufacturer
- Online product pricing and availability will vary and will be fulfilled independent of store reservations."

The second line worries me a bit: What does it mean that reservations are first come first serve? I mean, if I was second today, but show up 14th on launch day, and the store gets 10 units, instead of the 16 they expect, does that mean I don't get a unit? Sure sounds like it! Either way, those without reservations should not be expecting anything at all on launch day from EB/GS stores.

Color me blu with excitement!

Sweet. The clock is ticking here.

I called last night and they said they open at 10am.

I think I will head down a little early

While I know that it doesn't guarantee jack on release day, I made it down to my EB Games this morning at 9:30 to see what my luck for an in-store preorder would be like for the PS3 since today was the day.

A 19 year old walked in before me and started to purchase a used PS2 hockey game. He's going through the payment process and checking out having credit applied. The woman behind the counter asked me what I was in for and I said a PS3 preorder if they have any left. She raises one finger indicating one left. Before anything else can be said I go "I'll claim that and pay in full."

The guy in front of me got all huffed at that point claiming he was going to be doing that next. You don't go in for a PS3 preorder and pay for a used PS2 game first. You ask about what slots are left! They had 8 at the store and people sleeping there overnight, so they opened early and I managed to grab the last one.

Got the console, rainbow six: vegas, resistance and genji. Also put in a preorder for Wii's Red Steel. They're doing the same gig soon and I'll nab a Wii when they're ready.

Yay!

Well, it looks like I lucked out.

The store opened at 10. I was there at 9:30 am and was literally the fourth person to show up and casually wait outside.

At the end of it all, there were just 8 of us there by 10, we were let in, and I was the 4th person to secure my preorder for the 60 gig PS3, so I guess I'm good to go!

This was all over with by 10:05 am.

All of us were expecting more madness than what this was. Maybe in the big cities it was and will be more so.

Sure enough, a couple of stragglers came in at about 10:30 and found out it was too late. They walked out without any fuss.

I'm on the East coast, FWIW.

I got there 9 am and was second in line.

At 9:30 the manager got there and said that they were all gone at 7:30am and that only half the people there got them.

Sometimes it does not pay to be in a tech savvy location.

Seems like quanities are limited in the stores. I checked on amazon.com and they are not taking preorders yet at this time. I don't know if anything like a deposit is required or not for a preorder, but I will keep everyone posted.

what's sad, i live in a mountain community. if i were to preorder at a brick and mortar, i'd have to drive close to an hour to place my preorder. to make things even better, we had our first snow of the season (at lake level) last night, so the roads are a mess. in terms of places to preorder, the best we could possibly have is a k-mart. otherwise, we don't have jack here.

online is my only hope obi-wan

Congrats Eric!

As I have said elsewhere, I feel like an idiot for not camping out last night in order to insure that I would get my preorder in. That's pretty much what it took to get one here in SoCal.

I was 9th in line at 8 a.m. They only took 6 preorders. Bummer.

I got one as well.

I got there about 9am, which was pretty good considering there were people there from 12am. The store is in the mall, so they cant open before 10am. The guy came out a couple of times to count the people there. He was allocated 16 for the preorder. I happened to be 12/16.

This isnt a guarantee for launch. Its just a guarantee that when EB has it you will get a phone call and have it reserved for 48 hours until it goes to the next person.

That's good enough for me.

Barring something really unforseen, who would honestly place money down on something like this and then let it sit there for even 24 hours after the launch?

I'll be there right when the store opens on launch day and as 4 out of 8 I think I'm going to make it.

They even told me today: They HAVE to sit on it for 24 hours for you before they cought it up to someone else.

I also know everyone that works there so I WILL be getting mine on launch day unless they only get 2-3 units in.

In which case, I guess it just wasn't meant to be. I did the best I could.

9:15am Reading about EB games pre-orders.
Calling EB Games to find out if there are any left.
9:16am Calling girlfriend to tell her to head over to EB games.
9:20am In Car heading to EB
9:35am Arrive at EB Games. There's one guy inside, a girl waiting up front, three guys behind her, then my girlfriend, then me. Soon after another guy walks up.
9:45am 4 more people show up. Guy who was inside of EB comes out with his pre-order and the girl goes in. They were having trouble with their computer.
9:47am Two guys go in together, turns out they are only getting one console... Phew... I begin to feel better.
9:49am Another guy goes in, but his credit card gets declined. Manager comes out to hand out a list of games that are available for pre-order. Guy two slots behind me asks if he's okay. Manager says everyone in front of the store at that time is cool. My girlfriend goes in to pre-order a console. Guy two slots behind me offers me and the guy behind me $20 bucks each to cut, because he has to goto work. I take the $20 and let the guy go ahead of me.
9:50am Girlfriend comes out, guy goes in. She's number 4 to order a system.
9:52am I go in, pre-order my system and then I'm out.

Overall, I feel lucky. I've got two systems coming my way. I'm most likely going to eBay one of them and put the proceeds towards a 46" 1080p LCD to upgrade from my 32" LCD.

My store is opening at midnight to distribute the systems. I'll be there at that time for sure. I've got numbers 4 and 6, and I don't know how many they are getting but the guy there said that only two were allocated to employees in the store, so really I have 6 and 8. I feel pretty good about my position as well, and I feel like you do, If I don't get one, then oh well. I really didn't want to camp out for the system, and this gave me an opportunity to possibly get a system without having to.

Here's an interesting comment from the manager of my EB today:

"I wish we had pushed putting $5 down on PS3 games (preorders like that) because allotments were largely determined by that."

Hmmm... That's interesting...

Where in SoCal do you live? I ordered mine at the Carlsbad EB Games.
