Watching 'grainy' Pirates.... - Blu-ray Forum

Watching POTC at the mo, the first of the three, and amazing PQ it must be said. But did anyone else notice that the darker scenes are quite grainy?? To be honest, its quite noticable!!

its a sony bravia 40" full hd 1080p..

i was a small bit disappointed.. thats sounds a bit greedy maybe, but after reading all the reviews on the movie section of this site i didnt expect there to be a hint of grain!! day light scenes are amazing, but let down slightly by the darker scenes. are we expecting too much???

It's just that movie - they are fantastic in Pirates 2 and 3.

But, they are grainy early in PotC one, especially when the Pearl first approaches the harbor.

i didn't notice. but couldn't it be your tv? or is this a well known problem?

got to be a setting on your tv, I watched 1 & 2 last week & there was ZERO grian on #2, #1 there is one night shoot that last about 5 sec that has some Very minor grain.

the movie is like that to begin with, your not having problems LOL. Its not that bad though.

pirates 2 is being shipped to me at the mo so il see how that one looks

I have the same TV, if you are watching it in vivid....don't

This is the setting where they jack all the settings up to max. It is in this mode by default.

Make sure you have your sharpness level turned down too, a lot of people jack that way up, and that just increases the amount of grain on the screen that you will see. Try experimenting with that.
