Default Justice League Extras

Has anyone bought this yet and had a look at the extras?

Is there any actual "making of" stuff in there or is it all about the history of the characters?

A lot of it looks like DC history (and why we (the filmmakers and actors) like them), but there's a piece on making the suits for all the different characters, and a small section called Scene Studies that looks into the filming of 4 different scenes (it's about 15 minutes total).

Haven't actually watched any of it, just a quick skim through...

Looks like the Technology of the Justice League piece looks into the props and vehicles a bit too...

You can go to MoviesAnywhere.com and scroll through all the thumbnail images for all the extras there, you can see a lot more than Apple's preview shows you. It has everything in the 'Extras' category. The "The League" part of iTunes doesn't seem to be in MA, but that's mostly comic book history and still galleries.

There's also a small video about Cyborg on the MA site you can watch for free (don't even need to sign in), that seems to be exclusive there (sort of a 'here's a free extra, now buy the movie!' thing).

I had assumed we wouldn't be getting any extensive and in-depth behind the scenes in light of all the rumours but I had hoped that wouldn't affect a look at the VFX and such. Hopefully the suits and scenes sections are informative.

The tech of Justice League is one I was curious about as to whether it was about the creation of the props themselves and how the crew made them work on set or whether it was a puff piece on Batman's "cool gadgets".

Thanks fir that info on Movies Anywhere - it will be handy to see a full preview of extras on a film.

I don't get the purpose of Movies Anywhere though. If you have internet you can already access your iTunes, Amazon, etc.

So what is the point of it?

You can't always access iTunes... If you only have a smart TV (and no Apple TV), there's no way to access iTunes + extras on it. But you can download a Movies Anywhere or Vudu app on most TVs and watch your collection there.

I think the point was just to combine everything into every place. Ultraviolet and iTunes all together, no matter what service you are using. Trying to de-fragment the digital streaming market to make it more appealing. I have a bunch of digital copies that were UV only, after joining Movies Anywhere, I now have all of them in iTunes also. (Except for the few studios that haven't joined...) I prefer iTunes, but there have been several times already at friends houses when we wanted to watch something, and I was able to get Vudu on their TV and we had access to all of my movies...

Movies Anywhere actually supplants Ultraviolet. The original promise of Ultraviolet was own once, watch anywhere. But the providers: Vudu, Flixster, FandangoNow, Sony Pictures Store, etc implemented geolocking, IE using your IP address to determine your location, to prevent streaming outside of your home country. The other issue was the some providers: Google Play and Amazon did not want to become an Ultraviolet partner.

Disney decided to forgo Ultraviolet for their own Keychest system. While this prevented sharing of content like UV, it had the major providers support: Vudu, iTunes, Google Play, and Amazon. Now you can truly buy once, watch anywhere since iTunes is not geolocked. The only issue is that it was Disney only and Disney limited it to Walt Disney Pictures, Marvel Studios, Lucasfilm Limited, and Pixar Studios films.

So Movies Anywhere was created with some of the other studios onboard. Again, buy once and watch anywhere. You aren't geolocked and you can use the provider you like. With this, Disney added Touchstone Pictures to their list of participating studios and Warner, Sony, Fox, & Universal also joined the service.

Now here is the rub:

All of these have extras but its in how they are presented.

Vudu has you choose your extras from a seperate menu section. You have to stop playback to enjoy these. Google Play also includes extras as seperate items. Amazon includes the extras at the end of the film like VHS. iTunes actually has menus to select the extras so it works like DVD/Blu-ray: enjoy the extras without leaving the movie.

Vudu rarely has commentaries unless a second version of the film is included that has commentary only audio. Amazon and Google Play do not include commentaries at all. iTunes includes the commentaries and sometimes enhanced commentaries.

But why Movies Anywhere?

Well, besides the buy once watch anywhere.

Consumer choice. Now you can buy from the provider you prefer or take advantage of a sale on a participating studio's film and not have to worry about being locked to that provider.

And another nice thing for consumers is Vudu's Disc2Digital service. You can insert a Blu-ray disc into your computer, use their little program to verify the disc and buy a digital copy for $2. That then gets ported to MA and iTunes (for participating studios).

If you have a DVD, you can get an HD digital copy for $5.

No blu-ray drive? You can use the barcode while at your home and get them that way (limited to 100 a year I think or something like that...)

I created digital copies for many of my blu-rays that were pre-copy code that way...

My first reaction there was surprise - I'm so used to having an AppleTV that I genuinely hadn't actually considered people who don't.

So joining Movies Anywhere automatically puts movies you bought on Amazon or Vudu into your Tunes library?

So if I buy a movie on the Irish iTunes that doesn't have extras but it does on the US store, then I access those extras on Movies Anywhere?

I scrolled the site without signing up and they have The Martian theatrical and extended cuts. The extended cut isn't available in iTunes here so would that mean I can't watch the extended version on MA or any of it's commentaries?

Does doing this give you the iTunes Extras?

No it doesn't work with purchases made from non-US digital stores.

No. That's not how it works.

Movies Anywhere is US only although some have gotten it to work with international services.

It does allow a US user to choose a provider, like US iTunes, so they can access their movies anywhere without the geolock. But it doesn't or shouldn't work with non-US providers.

The great news is that iTunes is not geolocked. You can have a US, UK, Irish, French, and various other iTunes accounts so long as you have enough email addresses. You'll also need a physical address in the country where you are making an account. I have a US and a UK account so I when I import Blu-rays from the UK, I can redeem the iTunes digital copies. I also was able to get some of the freebies from the UK iTunes store.

I should have remembered that.

Has Disney said whether or not they'll remain a part of the service once they have their own streaming service up and running?

And in that point, has it been mentioned yet whether that streaming service will be international or just for the US?

I have followed the story a little but I haven't seen any chatter on the intended market.

Okay.

Just out of curiosity though do you have access to extra content from iTunes that Vudu doesn't have and vice versa?

My Apple TV lets me switch accounts so I swap from my main US account to the UK and I have access to all the iTunes Extras for the movies that have them. No issue.

If I don't want to switch, I can download them and use home sharing to watch them but I only get the movies this way. Its better for me to just switch between accounts.

Movies Anywhere only allows one iTunes account connected so its my main US account. As long as the shared movie has extras in iTunes, I get them.

I understood now the purpose or why people would want it although even if it was available here iTunes and Netflix are all I use anyway.

The website will be very handy though for finding out what the extras on a movie when the iTunes preview doesn't show enough.

I really wish the studios or Apple would put a little more effort into the layout of the iTunes Extras menus. Why can't they give a little more space to the names of the extras features?

Yes, if the title has extra in iTunes, you will get the extras from Vudu Disc2Digital.

Some exceptions:
Studios that don't participate in MA (obviously).
In some cases, D2D redeems a specific cut (theatrical or director's cut), and the studio may only put the extras on the other version...

But most of the time it works.

Oh god, don't even get me started on that! Or if the studios would LISTEN to the character limits and use them accordingly. Using
Feature Length Commentary on the Extended Cut by Director Bob Smith and an actor
When the next option is
Feature Length Commentary on the Extended Cut by Director Bob Smith and the effect team

Doesn't tell you crap when iTunes only displays the first 40 characters..
Or you have to wait 20 minutes for the worlds SLOWEST scroll to tell you what the rest of the button says...

Apple limited it to a certain size (based largely on readability on the smallest TV I believe), and the studios ignored it...

Just say 'Director's Commentary' or 'Director and Producer Commentary' and then use the 4 lines of text underneath the thumbnail image to provide the details!

Problem is, the people that make the decisions on things like this aren't people that actually USE the system. They don't know the frustration, and largely don't care...

Hi,How did you get a US account if you’ve live in the U.K. Or reverse if you live in the U.S?
