Warner Bros Twister (1996)

Here we go again. The site movie reviewer gave the video of Twister a 3.5 after concluding that it is a "letdown". We seriously need a reviewer who calls a dog a dog rather than someone who is so enamored with the format that all reason is suspended.

You must be talking about the review at HDD.

I haven't seen the video, are you suggesting they are being Soft? Do you feel it deserves less of a rating? Both HDD and Blu-ray.com gave it a 3.5

It may not pack the same punch as other catalog releases on Blu-ray, but it easily trumps every standard DVD on the market.

Have you seen it yourself and think the video deserves a better score

I think the PQ is pretty good. Overall, it looks a little better than I expected, especially in well lit scenes.

As for the SQ, it's really good and imo, that's the most important thing for this movie.

I was a big weather geek when I was younger and loved this movie when I saw it. I know it is cheesy, but man... I still love it. I can finally retire my Twister DVD, because this Blu-Ray looks sweet. I am about an hour in and I am impressed with the video quality. Too bad I don't have a 605 to hear the TrueHD.

Did you hear a difference in the sound between the reg DVD and the bluray, considering you dont have a receiver that decodes TrueHD. I want to get this bluray but I dont have a hidef receiver. The only reason I want this bluray is the sound, Im an audio junkie.

I love it when they start a thread bad mouthing something and then up-and-disappear.

Depends on what your point of reference is. Those of us watching VHS and DVD most of our adult lives find even bad Blu-rays pretty good. We don't give them five stars, but we need to be honest that they aren't as bad as NTSC.

I think the softness of Twister is due to Warners use of DNR. DNR takes away grain therefor taking away from the PQ.

People always find a reason to complain I actually enjoy the reviews here and @ HDD very much. I make up my own mind, but the reviews usually provide good information in one way or another. Once you find a reviewer that you agree with (similar tastes and preferences), then choosing a "blind buy" becomes a lot easier. I bought Run Lola Run, and Night of the Werewolves/Night of the Zombie based on reviews...and I like both movies a lot.

WHV hasn't shipped my copy yet, so I can't speak from experience, but the screenshots provided by this site look great!

I agree that it could most likely be better with a higher bit-rate encode and staying away from the DNR, but this looks to be one of WB's best titles in regards to PQ.

Plus, it looks a WHOLE heck of a lot better than the DVD...

NOTE: Check out the "busted windshield" shot on the screenshots... pretty COOL!!

You know what's the funniest thing about the reviews on here? The user reviews. They are so varied it's hilarious! Even the movie with clear sub-par video quality will get a 5/5 from some people. Cracks me up everytime. Someone already gave Twister a 5/5 for video, LOL.
