Nice. Feels like every time I sell an old Criterion bluray we get a UHD announcement within a few months. Just sold some Kurosawa and Ozu, so hopefully won't be long!

Selling an Arrow for a Criterion? No fookin chance. But I've still got the old Crit Blu for the special features.

That Hunter S. Thompson commentary track is not optional.

The Criterion has more extras, but I'll stick with the Arrow import.

Just this morning I got a $50 gift card for doing some random energy assessment on my home so now I'm considering just importing the Arrow release. Saw that Arrow has a 2 for £40 deal on UHDs so it feels serendipitous. Might grab this and something else...maybe Naked Lunch or Battle Royale...maybe all three!

Don’t have the Arrow release, so I might upgrade my Criterion BD for this.

I have the Arrow so no dice here, but good they're finally releasing it for those allergic to imports.

Well, as a person in Region A who thinks buying region-locked things is a waste of money I appreciate this release and will buy it.

It's not like this was a surprise after the last few criterion in the US, arrow for the UK rights terry gilliam UHDs. I'd rather wait and have the blu-ray portion not locked.

When they do it differently I reassess, nothing in the UK only hellraiser LE was region locked so it was an easy choice.

Nothing in the UK Fear and Loathing LE is region locked either. There aren't any Blu-rays included.

I know it's been covered on these boards, but I've never quite understood the audio situation on this movie.

The film lists Dolby Digital, DTS, and SDDS in the end credits, and was advertised at the time of release with at least SDDS and DTS, yet the 2.0 surround has usually been presented as the primary audio track, even going back to the Criterion DVD.

Was the 5.1 track not finished in time for the theatrical release or something?

To be fair I did assume on this one without bothering to check that it was UHD + BD (region B) since 95% of what they do for UK release has that setup.. the hellraiser stuff being one of the outliers with no region locked BDs.

I still would have waited, I can get Criterion's twice a year at a 50% discount, UK arrow discs, not at all.

e: I might have oversimplified it too, there are other deciding factors..like "is this likely to have a domestic release or not" or "is the region A bad for some reason or has some sort of production issue"..stuff like hellraiser or super mario (1993) that are very unlikely to get a stateside release is a different case then stuff like this where I already own the criterion baron m and time bandits and it's clear they have the US 4k rights

The Arrow presentation is already 11/10. This will be a guaranteed downgrade. The Criterion special features can be had from any of their old discs or even a DVD.

I went through this, the 2.0 on the old Criterion discs was the default track for compatability and I suppose it just stuck to Blu ray, even though that disc is also ancient at this point. The 5.1 is also a full native theater track.

don't sell it, it has the great menu of Steadman creating the logo which is missing from the blu-ray and presumably the UHD
