Default 87% of owners watch Blu-rays on PS3

87% of owners watch Blu-rays on PS3

http://www.psu.com/87--of-owners-wat...0002355-p0.php

Keep in mind this is people who WATCH movies, not BUY movies.

I think many PS3 owners probably rent or borrow, or just play the 5 free movies they got. But certainly a big chunk also buy. Some more then others.

I think you'd be surprised how many people almost exclusively watch blu on PS3's. they had been the cheapest way to own a blu-ray player. That is what I have and watch movies 95% of the time.

That seems pretty high to me for some reason considering not too long ago 40% of owners didn't even know that the PS3 played BD's.

I bought my PS3 to watch movies. As a bonus, I can also play games. I don't really play anything other than MotorStorm, which came with the machine, but there it is. I almost exclusively use it to watch movies.

I bought the PS3 to play games, I watch Blu-ray movies on the PS3 75% of the time. I use my DVD player to watch zone 1 DVDs that can't be read on the European PS3.

Default Blu on PS3

Yes I bought a PS3 before Christmas for two reasons.

1) I have a Nephew that likes to spend weekends with us, Since he is a playstation fan (And so am i) I bought for a couple of games such as Eye Of judgement, Heavenly Sword, etc

2) Also with the format war at the time when I bought the formats were anybodys game at the time.

3) I am currently looking for a good Blu-Ray player, also this week I have been showing my mother the new articles and she and I are purchasing a Sony Blu Ray Player tomorrow for her.

As much as I would LOVE this to be true it just is not.

IF it were...and each had bought just 1 blu-ray...we would have stomped HD-DVD LONG before Warner moved.

BUT I believe that that numbers are the key.

POTENTIAL is what Warner saw. And that drove them to change.

I think the difference between watch and buy is really a matter of semantics. You'd probably find that the percentage who primarily rent vs. buy is pretty close to the percentages for non-PS3 Blu-Ray watchers. If you can afford the PS3 in the first place, afford to pay $60 for games, it's not much of a stretch to imagine that they can afford to throw down $20-35 (or less with all the sales and BOGOs going on) every now and again for a movie.

I bought my PS3 primarily for its Blu-Ray capabilities. At the time it was the only machine that had a viable chance of being Profile 1.1 and 2.0 upgradeable. Profile 1.1 has arrived and 2.0 is coming (hopefully with DTS-MA so I will have no choice but to buy a new receiver), so I feel vindicated in my decision. I have purchased 42 movies so far (that excludes the 5 free movies) and have no intentions of stopping.

I spend 80% of time playing game, browsing internet,PSN, listening music etc etc and 20% for movies. But I guess that's because I dont have truck load of BLUs at present. Once my BLU collection grows I will spend more time watching movies.

With so many heavy hitter(games) lined up for 2008, I don't see that happening.

most of the people who dont buy or watch blu rays arent going to be on the internet filling out a survey thats why its so high and they people who do watch and buy AND see the survey are more likely to fill it out then the people who dont
and when blu rays go back to msrp back to ebay for me lol
