Watch Blu-Rays all the time on my PS3. One of the reasons I bought it in the first place.

Dunno why the OP is a troll.

Anyone who thinks the PS3 is anything BUT the single most significant piece of hardware in the format war, on the other hand, has most likely been living under a bridge.

While I believe the number is higher than the HD-DVD side has claimed, does anyone really believe it is 87%? This would mean there are well over 3 million blu ray consumers - if that was true, wouldn't there be more BD movies selling? I would even be extremely suprised if 87% of PS3 owners had a HDTV.

And yes, I own a PS3, and yes I use it mostly for movies.

I bought Heavenly Sword recently and there was a survey card in there regarding Blu-Ray. My guess would be that's how they're doing the research.

I swear, people around here are just so trigger happy with that word that now they are accusing their own kind of being trolls. Get a grip.

That is good news for the format, but I wonder how accurate that number truely is. I mean, amongst all PS3 owners, I would think those who are Blu-Ray enthusiasts would be more apt to participate in such a poll. Most of those who don't care about Blu-Ray would likely just pass it by, hence these results.

I don't deny that a lot of people are using their PS3 for Blu-Ray, and that it is the primary reason that Blu-Ray has pretty much won the format war. However, that percentage doesn't seem very accurate. When you consider how many PS3's are out there, if 87% of people were that into the Blu-Ray format, then the disc sales would be even higher and would have been dwarfing HD-DVD by a much larger margin than they already have been.

Heck, I wonder if 87% of PS3 owners even have an HDTV. I'm sure many people are buying it just to have a next gen system since support for the PS2 is winding down, and not all of them have an HDTV, so upgrading their movie format without such a TV wouldn't make a whole lot of sense.

IMHO, it would be hard to find a PS3 owner who bought it only for the games and did not know that it could play BD. I say this mainly because there weren't that many games out at launch and even today, there are fewer games for it than XBox.

So, I would think that the average PS3 owner most likely had BD playback as one of his/her reasons to buy one, whereas the average XBox owner was probably more concerned about playing Halo 3.

Just my $0.02.

Well, not everyone has the kind of money to upgrade everything. A lot of people are buying the 360 and/or PS3 not because of the Hi-Def capability, but to be able to continue to play video games since the original Xbox is dead and the PS2 is more or less on the way out.

For some people getting a decent HDTV is out of their price range, and even for people who do have a Hi-Def TV, they are going to have it in their main living area or something. They aren't going to have the money to put one in every room of their house, esspecially not their kids' room of all places.

Why don't we laugh at people who don't live in huge mansions with a couple of $100,000 cars and a summer home in Hawaii while we are at it?

Is it advisable to play PS3 games on a plasma screen TV? I bought a Blu-Ray player but did not realize until afterwards that I could have purchased a PS3 to play movies.
