Nic Cage is miles above everyone else. Get it.
I always wanted to know why everyone hates Cage? Is it because most people don't get what he is doing? People just see him in "wacky character" roles and say he is a bad actor, when I see him in these same roles and feel he is giving a deeper meaning (Vampire's Kiss, Raising Arizona, The Weather Man, Bringing Out the Dead, and The Wicker Man comes to mind.) Like Ebert has said, "He's daring and fearless in his choice of roles, and unafraid to crawl out on a limb, saw it off and remain suspended in air. No one else can project inner trembling so effectively.... He always seems so earnest. However improbable his character, he never winks at the audience. He is committed to the character with every atom and plays him as if he were him." ^ That is an actor. |

That also reminds me, can't wait to see Cage's brilliance in Herzog's Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans. 100% on RottenTomatoes, and great reviews so far all around.

He completely devotes himself to each role, disregarding whether you think it's a good movie or not. There is a reason he gets basically whatever role he wants. Sure, some aren't a fan of some of his selections (Wicker Man, Ghost Rider, the latter of which I actually enjoyed more than most), but like Ebert says he isn't afraid to take risks. Lord of War is one of the films in which Nicolas Cage puts on an amazing performance. The overall plot of the film is somewhat average, but I think Cage pulls you in more and turns an average movie into a very decent flick. Worth the blind buy for the 10 dollars it can commonly be had for, but if you are on a buying budget just rent it. You may not watch it more than once even if you like it. |

I love the movie too. I love the wild photography they used; not wild in the sense that it was shaking around or anything, just a lot of weird camera angles and unique imagery. The story/characters are strong too, and the movie's messages are frightfully insightful. The Blu-Ray has good quality for the most part, but has no extras.

this actually is a very entertaining film. a bit off-beat but fun and the blu-ray is very good for an early entry into the field. make sure you check Wal-Mart because they are selling it for 10.00. that's where I got it and for that price well worth it.
