Default Two video problems with PS3

Hi everyone,

I'm sure there are simple answers to these, but I have a couple of problems playing DVD's on our new PS3:

1. Blu-ray movies flicker slightly at the bottom of the frame and have a ghostyness to the picture when a scene is panned (or, as an example, when someone is moving across the picture), and

2. SD movies have the black letterbox, but on the sides. Zooming doesn't fix the issue, so I assume it's a setting on the PS3, which I'm struggling to find.

I have an LG, 37' 720p HDTV if that's of any help.

Thanks a lot!

sounds like its either your TV or your a/v cables (be it component or hdmi). There will be a setting on your ps3 to change to 16:9 rather than 4:3. Your tv also needs to be on its 16:9 setting. But your first problem does just sound mainly like faulty a/v wires

I, too, have a similar problem with blu-rays. When a scene is panned or there is a large object moving across the screen, the whole video gets somewhat choppy - not just the bottom part. Ive tried two different HDMI cables and still no change. Have no clue why it is so and its been bothering me for months now ...

The thing is I dont experience anything like it when watching the full hd trailers downloaded from the playstation store (although you can see the video is somewhat compressed) ...

got a 52" 1080p lcd from samsung and the latest firmware installed ...

You're seeing limitations of LCD

I'm guessing you bought Full Screen versions? That's why. You need to change how it handles 4:3 material

I had the same flickering with my BD movies, and I figured it to be my HDMI switch, so I returned it and got a new one, same thing. Then I bought a monoprice HDMI 10ft cord and it solved all problems.

Is it one of those 120Hz TVs? Do you have some sort of motion enhancer turned on? When those TVs interpolate frames up to 60-120fps, they drop frames when the action gets too fast and it looks like ass (re: choppy). Solution, never engage the motion enhancer (or whatever they call it) under any circumstances.
