Default When would you go dual format?

Suppose the current studio situation doesn't change, and Paramount and Universal remain HD DVD exclusive. Suppose also that you can buy a dual format player for a reasonable price, say $399, and it is a fully featured HD DVD and profile 2.0 BD player.

The question is, when would you give up waiting and go dual format?

I ask this not to promote the idea of going dual format, I will personally hold on as long as I can to do my part to encourage the establishment of a single definitive high def format, but for most of us there will surely come a point where we say enough is enough, I just want to be able to watch movies.

I think the votes in this poll will be useful information for the BDA in deciding how urgently they need to act to change the current situation.

Never. if paramount and universal do decide to stay solely with HD DVD (which they won't) then that will be their commercial suicide

If this situation were to carry over into 2009 with no hope of change, I might start to consider it. I don't see that happening though.

Come on, the studio situation is definitely changing. Universal and Paramount will be releasing on Blu in 08; the only question is the timing of their announcements.

If the situation truly doesn't change, and Paramount and Universal stay HD DVD exclusive into 2009, then I think high-def media can be decalred dead. I'll stick with my Blu-ray as long as titles I want come out, but I wouldn't dump more money into supporting another losing format.

The only way I will EVER go red, is if HD DVD is declared the winner, and Blu-Ray goes the way of the dodo.

I would expect two other things to precede HD DVD winning:

Cure for Death
Goverment puts an end to all tax

So there IS a slim chance.....

Only one answer: never. It would either be Blu-ray or HD-DVD should it ever beat Blu-ray but that has as good of a chance as a snowball in Hell.

I was red before I went blu and have been blu exclusive since February last year. I decided I didn't want to be one to prolong this war. I currently have no plans to buy any HD DVDs. If I must have the movie, it will have to be on DVD. I might even decide that I don't care to own any Paramount or Universal DVDs and just Netflix them. The last thing I bought from Universal was the Dead Silence DVD. I wish I hadn't done that it was so bad.

Now that Warner is all BLU, think about all the movies we have available to us ! Believe me, Toshiba will be selling Blu Ray players within the year ! (my opinion)

HD DVD and the jokers at their promotional group have ZERO chance of winning. All you see now is an unethical attempt to sell merchandise to unsuspecting consumers.

Dual format?

The format war is over.

Lets not forget WB are technically in an identical position to Universal and Paramount, difference being they have already made their intentions clear.
