Maybe I'm crazy, but here's my opinion. Sony has done next to nothing to push sacd. The majority of the general public still don't even know what dvd-audio and sacd are. A little while ago I was thinking that they would come out with the "blu-ray audio cd" in a few years, half jokingly, and totally scrap sacd. Think about it though. Sony has massive plans for blu-ray with the Playstation 3 in particular. Who wouldn't want the latest, greatest gaming console that also plays high-definition movies? There will probably be an even bigger craze than what we saw for the Playstation 2.

Going back to the topic, what's the really cool thing, besides great sound quality, about sacd? Hybrids. I was buying hybrids before I even had an sacd player because I could still play them in my car, or computer, or portable. Maybe my hair-brained idea had some truth in it after all. Larger capacity discs, even better sound than sacds, and it will even play in your car, computer, or portable. It seems to me that Sony wants blu-ray to be THE format for everything. What do you think?

Thank you for the excellent link. If they can make hybrid BD/DVD discs also it would be very cool. I think that the HD-DVD guys were talking about the possibility of HD-DVD/DVD hybrid discs at Ceatec 2004, but I'm not sure how far along their plans for this is.
