Default PS3 to Samsung hl-s5687W routing question

Hi All,

I have a PS3 as my blu-ray player, A denon 987 receiver, and the 1080p samsung hl-s5687W. I have the ps3 connected to the receiver via HDMI and the receiver connected to the tv via HDMI as well.

I have been trying to get my optimal settings correct and it seems like i've run into a problem. I was watching a blu ray disc (the actual feature) and accidentally hit the info button on my tv remote and it said that the signal the tv was receiving was 1080 @ 60hz. My understanding was that the bluray would be 1080 @ 24hz.

I decided to go to the ps3 bluray disc settings and saw the 1080p 24hz setting. It was set to automatic. I decided to turn it ON. When I did that the tv went to the "unsupported mode" setting. I'm wondering if there is a problem with the television or if it is one of those tv's that doesn't support real 1080p 24hz. I've done some research online and it says it should.

Anyone have any suggestions or seen any issues like this?

Thanks

try connecting ps3 directly to the TV. If it plays at 24Hz, then you know its the receiver at fault.

I have the Samsung HLT5089S. I also have the PS3 going to a Onkyo 605, which goes to the TV, all via HDMI. When I have the PS3 24p set to Auto, the TV displays 1080P@60 when I hit the info button on the Samsung remote. When I force the PS3 setting to On, it shows 1080P@24. I cannot notice a difference between the two settings, so I leave it on Auto. I beleive our TV's can accept a 24hz signal, but they don't do the conversion process properly.

I believe the HLT's accept 24hz, but the HLS's do not.

So this essentially means I'm only watching bluray at 1080i? I've tried connecting ps3 directly to tv via hdmi. Same results.

No, you should be getting 1080p. If it says 1080i when you hit the info button, then you must have your PS3 set to 1080i resolution. Change it to 1080p in the PS3 under display settings and hit the info button on your Samsung remote and it should say 1080@60, which is 1080p. Blu-ray is fine @60. Do not select On for the 24p setting, either have it on Auto or Off.
