Default Samsung PN-42A450 and PS3 question

hey all,

I'm at my mother in laws and she bought this sammy. Its a 720p set, yet when I hooked up my PS3 and ran the video settings it gave me the option for all 4. 1080p/i and 720 p/i.

I picked 1080p and it displayed properly. I also tried to turn on 24p and that worked fine too.

Am I better off leaving it on 1080p and with the 24p on or setting it up for what I know the TV supports? (720/60)

The TV has to be doing something to the 1080p signal, since its not a 1080p set, but still displaying a picture...

This is just a hunch but I think the menu output on PS3 only displays 1080i or 720P at all times. If you put in a blu-ray does the image come out properly? If you click the "display" button on your TV what does it show the resolution as?

Interesting. I know that a friend of mine had a 720P set and it didn't like 1080P at all when I brought my system over.

I know my LG 720p set can accept a 1080p signal. The T.V. just down converts the signal to the sets native resolution. I'm sure your set is doing the same.

I use a PS3 as my blu-ray player as well. What I suggest doing is manually adjusting the output on the PS3 to 1080p then looking at the screen to see how "clear" it is. Then set the PS3 to only output 720p and check the set again.

I find that the PS3 does a better job of adjusting the resolution than my set does. The 720p output is much more clear than outputting 1080p. So I just recommend doing your ouwn "test".

I mostly just looked at the PS3 menu screen and read the words at each output resolution. At 1080p the words were rather fuzzy and unclear. While at 720p the words were crystal clear. Each set can handle different settings better than others, so just find what works best for your particular set.

Hope that helps.

Thanks guys. I couldn't tell much of a difference between 1080p and 720p with the PS3 and her TV. Ended up leaving it at 1080p.
