Default Your favorite (or most annoying) HD-DUD argument.

In my short time exploring the whole hi-def forum thing, I came accross a few really fun ones:

"Finished spec"

- Yeah, looking ever more like finished format, too.

- Finished and inferior. What do you expect from what's basically a retooled version of a decade plus old format?

"Most Blu SALs can't do PiP, etc."

- Crock

- Back to inferiority again. PiP or a NOT compressed to all hell audio track? If I had to pick I know which one I REALLY want.

"The PS3 is just a toy."

- Nevermind that for many reasons it's the best player of either format out there.

- Or that they are ALL basically toys. You don't need them. They aren't appliances or necessities. The exist to enhance leisure time.

"I'll never buy a PS3 because it doesn't stack with my AV gear "right."

- WTF?

"HD-DVD is better. Consumers didn't choose the format for us, the STUDIOS did."

- Consumers HAVE been choosing for over a year. You just don't like their choices. Totally different thing.

-Even if I grant you that...so, what? You really think those movies are YOURS??? They belong to the studio. They can and should market them however they please. Red never gave them the product they wanted, nit the least of which being DRM. Many don't care about that, but studios sure do.

Given that and all the other limitations of Red studio support has NEVER been with it. They sold red because they could, not because they were gung ho about the product.

"Hardware moves software, just wait"

- It hasn't up to now.

- If that's true at all, it's all been in Sony's favor."

"Gamerbois" chose for us."

Umm...I know a lot of people that play games very little on it. Some not AT ALL. It's their movie player and/or media hub.

Sorry...just had to get that all off my chest. Rant concluded.

Porn won't be released on Blu-ray.

Just got this one the other day when I went to Hollywood Video to see if they are renting Blu yet, the guy's like "we're waiting to see who wins the war" and I was like "Well, Warner announced Blu-ray exclusivity, so it's basically over" and he says "yeah but they still don't release porn on Blu". I felt kind of dirty for knowing this but i said "dude, Digital Playground is Blu exclusive"

If all the studios were neutral then HD DVD would win.

and

Blu-Ray is only selling more because Wal-Mart isn't counted in Nielsons.

"We would have sold more if you didn't have as many players out there."

Gee, you think? It came up nearly every week after the Neilsen numbers were released. Bad BDA, why did you have to sell so many friggin players? Didn't you know that HD DVD wanted to win a week?

And recently, "I'm not buying into an unfinished spec." So how many DVD players do these people own now, or have owned? 4, 5? Hell I'm on my 8th one. Technology evolves. I think a few of those guys have already upgraded their original HD DVD players to newer generations. I wonder why? I'm still using my PS3 which is fully up to spec and came out 5 months after the launch of the format.

Indeed. That's one of the prices a new adopter plays at times. The first DVD players were outdated pretty quickly once studios started adding features like seamless branching and such to the movies. My PS3 is not only up to spec, it's built to stay up to spec.

The only reason these people can really say that their player is current and is going to stay current is that there it's unlikely anyone's going to be investing much more in the format to begin with.

Not that anyone BUT Toshiba ever did. Another reason the format is at 5,000 feet and spiraling towards the ground.

Have you heard the razor/razorblade argument? Don't hear it so much that Blu-Ray is selling more stand-alones along with selling more software.

"HD DVD looks and sounds better"

- link to review sites

"BD is no better then an upscaled DVD"

- usually followed with some BS like look at TFE

"BD does not require DD+ and DTHD on all players"

- so, the disks can't handle it anyways, that is why so few have it

"BD does not require Ethernet"

- name me 10 movies that use it and that you consider it fundamental to watching them ---- I then asked for only one but did not get a response.

--------------------- drum roll and the new one

"they are both dead and DL will be the next format and will be here soon, so you should buy an HD DVD player for now because it is cheap and you can have some HD movies as well as good upscaling for the rest while you wait"

- anyone interested in up scaling most likely has an upscaler, most BD player are just as good and you can get most new movies in HD, and if I was interested in lower then DVD quality DL I would not be looking at HD today. When better then BD (or whatever is the best at the time) DL become available you can wake me up.
