Default Costco dropping HDDVD? Anyone seen any news?

Saw a post from a guy on another forum and he stated that his latest trip to Costco revealed zero HDDVD players. He asked a sales associate and was told they pulled them all. He also claims they are not on the website.

Before getting too excited Id like to see a better source of this.

I think it depends on the Costco, because not all Costcos were carrying HDM. One near me still has the HD-A3 for $129 and the Sony BDP 300 for $449. The Blu-Ray only had two left in stock

Id expect the addon to stay. Hmmm.

Maybe someone can comment further. Any Costco employees here?

I doubt Costco will make some official statement soon. Since Costco has some nicely 90 days return policy, I don't expect they will officially drop HD DVD before the grace period of returns.

Here is to wishing they have officially dropped that format. Hopefully they are just clearing out their warehouses and stock and are done.

The 90 day policy only applies to TV's and computers. The return policy on DVD players is still unlimited.

That is correct. Costco could care less about returns because they do not lose money on returns. The manufacturers actually eat the cost on returns. Costco is able to get the manufacturers to agree to these terms because of the bulk selling costco enables manufactures to do.

I was there today and they had HDDVD players and The Harry Potter Movie on HDDVD. They now carry the panny blu-ray player instead of the sony and they also had a few blu-ray movies.

I haven't seen HD-DVD players at my local Costco in the past several trips.

But then, Costco gets those items in big batches, so it's quite possible that they just never reordered them in the first place (given how slowly the pile was shrinking when they did have them).

And given recent news, they might never order them again.

Well I work at Costco and within days after Warner made their annoucement, that toshiba player did drop down in price down to $129.00. My store in Texas carries three different blu-ray players with the PS3 included and that toshiba is the only hd player we have. I would expect as more retailers go blu only, Costco will follow suit. Our blu-ray movies and hd movies that we carry in store, well at least at mine, are limited to just a few titles anyway.

My Costco has the Blu-Ray display on the huge TV as you enter (which is good) but still has the HD-DVD display with Shrek The Third in the middle of the store. Somehow that still bothers me.

The problem with Costco is that they only have a handful of BD movies in the stores. Just some of the new movies, but not much more than that. I guess we'll see when they start stocking BD movies in earnest.

I was at my local Costco a couple of days ago, they had 2 different Blu Ray players on display. I saw a samsung BD player and the Panny 30AK(?) but they also had a stock of the A3's for $130

1 of the displays had the 30AK paired with a panny 58" plasma, if you bought the tv for $2299 then you got $280 off the BD player, effectively bringing the cost down to $170, I asked the salesman and he said the sale had just started that day. That being said they did still have that huge stock of A3's although it looked as though only 1 had sold.
