Default PS3 image quality VS stand alone

ok
im sure it already been asked..but i have to know.

this morning, i was listening to radio and some expert guest came and talked about the war between Blu-Ray and HD DVD.

his stance was .. basically ..HD DVD should have won it was better... (various reasons...) and was basically saying ..

Buy HD DVD as an upconverting DVD players from now .. HD DVD will be here for a long time .. bla bla bla..

i will not mentions the various "strength" of HD DVD he gave they where all bogus..

well first of all i was pissed. because hes supposely an expert and was talking to 200 000 peoples and was speaking lies and half truth.

i will of course write to the radio station and will refute all his arguments in favors of HD DVD including giving like to this site and maybe high def digest (not the best for neutrality but ... well im trying to be neutral) as a reference

the animator has a PS3 and watch some Blu-ray so im pretty sure he will read up on what i say or i would not even think about writting that letter.

however i dont want to look like a dumbass, when i go into an argument .. i make sure i will own the guy.

question:

Guest said . PS3 video quality was of lesser quality of any stand alone player.

i want to know if its true and if so .. what player offer better or lower quality than the PS3

also .. im pretty sure ALL Blu-ray players are upconverter but i want to make sure.

- does all Blu-ray players play mp3 too?

- i wont ask about if Blu-ray players can play regular DVD . because i know its true . but the dumbass expert said only HD DVD could play them not Blu-ray..

and if you have some esoteric info on difference and strength over HD DVD please tell me.

im making sure i will own the expert arguments and that when hes back on the air like each week .. if the animator ask some questions he will know that the guest is full of it.

thanks for the info

The PS3 has one of the best BD PQ out if not the best-he is full of it. BD players INCLUDING the PS3 can upconvert, some better than others.

SPACE - biggest difference between BD and HD-DVD - BD having significantly more. 50GB for Blu-Ray 30GB for HD-DVD.

Blu-Ray has better studio support.. including SONY Pictures, 20th century FOX, MGM, Disney, WARNER (EXCLUSIVE), Lionsgate etc ALL EXCLUSIVE...

HD-DVD - paramount and universal -

Their are plenty of small time studios.. but those are who really count..

Maybe this "expert" have a HD-DUD player and just being bias. PS3 is no less superior that it's BD standalone counterparts. But I can tell you that the PS3 is superior than HD-DUD player when it comes to PQ.

The Panasonic BD30 IS better than the PS3. I spent quite a bit of time A/Bing both units on my ISF'd 60" SXRD (A3000). It's not huge, but noticably crisper and more detailed.

While the PS3's picture quality for Blu-ray was top notch when it first came out, I would say several standalone players have passed it now. It's really middle of the road for PQ at the moment. Pioneer, Panasonic, Denon, Sharp, even Sony itself has released players that slightly edge out the PS3. Of course the PS3 is the most futureproof of any player on the market and has many other features the other players will never have.

I'm sure you've already received plenty of good suggestions regarding the differences between HD-DUD and Blu-Ray, but can I suggest that you post the letter here before you send it to whomever you plan to sent it? Just by reading your post, you're going to need a LOT of proof-reading corrections.

For the others who helped me thanks a lot for the informations, it was moslty confirmations of what i knew but i wanted to be sure.

How about you put where you live in your avatar. I'm sorry, but when you come to an english speaking forum people expect you to be able to speak english.

However, if we know that you're not a native english speaker, people generally give you a break with grammar/spelling.
